When opened its doors, something shifted in Copenhagen. For the first time, the city had invited an international star architect onto Danish soil to shape one of its most important cultural institutions, and with ’s blue cube in Ørestad, a new chapter in Danish architectural culture began.

What followed was a transformation: major public commissions increasingly went to names from abroad, from OMA’s BLOX to Kengo Kuma’s water culture house on Papirøen. DR Concert Hall was the starting point.

Our new book marks the building’s twentieth anniversary by looking back at what it set in motion, and forward at what it has become. Today the blue cube stands not just as a landmark, but as a musical machine.

First glimpses into our new book: DR Concert Hall

This is the first major book on DR Concert Hall — one of Denmark’s most distinctive cultural buildings and an international icon of contemporary architecture by

Since it opened in January 2009, the Concert Hall has established itself as one of the most important cultural institutions of the 21st century. Now, almost 20 years on, this publication takes a close look at the musical and cultural machine it is. Through essays, interviews, photography, drawings, model studies, and unique archival material, readers are invited into the artistic and technical engine room of the building — from the earliest ideas and the competition to design the hall, to its remarkable acoustics, complex stage technologies, and the daily operations of a living cultural institution.

Both the Danish and English versions of The Arctic Cities by Peter Hemmersam are now available.

Where are Arctic cities located? Who lives there – and who planned them?

The Arctic Cities explores the spatial, political, and cultural conditions shaping urban life in the North. In 78 pages, the book traces the history and design of Arctic settlements, addressing colonialism, Indigenous perspectives, resource extraction, and welfare planning – and asks how globalisation and geopolitics challenge the future of small northern communities.
