From our archive: Bindesbøll, published in 2013
Gottlieb Bindesbøll is one of the most important figures in Danish architectural history, and his work remains an integral part of Copenhagen. You may know his most iconic building, Thorvaldsens Museum.
Written by .dk the book brings together drawings, details and works that give a close look at Bindesbøll’s way of working with colour, form and ornament.
Here are some of our favourite pages:
1. Martinus Rørbye’s painting of the courthouse by architect C.F. Hansen, showing the shift Bindesbøll introduced through his use of colour
2. A door drawing for the University of Copenhagen
3. A cylindrical tombstone designed by Bindesbøll for naval officer Osvald Marstrand
4. A tombstone drawing, showing Bindesbøll’s attention to form and proportion
