We are beyond excited to share that 'Two Strangers Trying Not to Kill Each Other' has advanced from the longlist and is now officially nominated for a Grierson Award 2025 in the Best Arts and Music category! The Griersons are among the most prestigious recognitions in documentary filmmaking, celebrating excellence in craft and storytelling – and we are truly honoured for the film to be included among the nominees.

In 'Two Strangers Trying Not to Kill Each Other' life, death and making meaning are at the heart of a beautiful and often very witty film about Maggie Barrett and Joel Meyerowitz, an aging artist couple who face the inevitability of impermanence and seek a deep peace in their relationship while they still can. With unique access to the couple's lives, directors Jacob Perlmutter and Manon Ouimet have created a profoundly moving film about living, creating and loving.

We are overjoyed with this nomination and eagerly looking ahead to the awards ceremony on 18 November at the Roundhouse in London.

We are so proud and delighted to announce that on Sunday, 14 September, editor and Final Cut for Real co-founder Janus Billeskov Jansen received Lauritzen Fonden’s Backstage Prize 2025!

Each year, Lauritzen Fonden presents the Lauritzen Prize to two Danish actors and also gives out three additional awards - including the Backstage Prize. The Backstage Prize recognises an outstanding behind-the-scenes professional in film, television, or theatre whose craft elevates actors’ performances - whether across a career or on a single production. The recognition is accompanied by a DKK 100,000 grant.

The jury gave the following statement: “He is an editor directors turn to when the story has stalled and the knot needs untying. He makes others flourish - not with grand gestures, but with calm, precision, and an unshakable belief that the story is always more important than the ego.”

Huge congratulations to Janus from all of us at Final Cut for Real!

Lørdag d. 16/8 kl 20 på DR2 vises den prisvindende og virkeligt fremragende dokumentarfilm TWO STRANGERS TRYING NOT TO KILL EACH OTHER (dk titel: To fremmede, der helst ikke vil slå hinanden ihjel)!
