Congratulations once more to Jonas Frølund, The Danish Chamber Orchestra conducted by Adam Fischer on receiving a Silver Medal for Best Classical Concerto Album for their recording of the Nielsen Clarinet Concerto.

Unquestionably one of the finest concertos ever written for the instrument, the Nielsen Concerto was the composer's last large scale orchestral composition and in many ways is a summation of his musical philosophy of "progressive tonality." The work's haunting conclusion eerily anticipates the final bars of Shostakovich's final symphony.

All of this is vividly brought to life by Jonas Frølund, one of the rising stars in the clarinet world.

Serious congratulations to composer Peter Navarro-Alonso, maestro Paul Hillier, Theatre of Voices and Ensemble Stralo on this stellar review from the Gramophone.

Throughout his catalogue Navarro-Alonso has taken an exploratory/deconstructionist approach to work of earlier composers, including Vivaldi's Four Season and Bach's Goldberg Variations and now, the infamous Gesualdo! For In flagrante delicto, Navarro-Alonso weaves fragments of Gesualdo's haunting harmonies into what is best described as a 'madrigal psycho-opera.' The queasy atmosphere is underscore through the ocassional dissolves into microtonal distortions and slightly altered instrumental sounds, but do not expect hysterics; as in Gesualdo's own music, there are moments of stunning beauty that emerge.
