Edition·S

Edition·S Edition·S – music¬sound¬art publishes art music for the classical and experimental music scene.

We represent our composers through the publication of scores, parts, electronic media, graphic formats and interdisciplinary expression. TARGET GROUPS
Our main customers and partners are professionals on the global classical and experimental music scene. We work with musicians, conductors, ensembles, orchestras, festivals, record companies, producers, media & technology innovators and art music pr

esenters across all continents. CATALOGUE
Our catalogue comprises more than 2,400 works composed between the mid 19th Century and the present time by Danish composers or composers that are permanent residents in Denmark. Our catalogue includes 20th Century classics such as Carl Nielsen and Rued Langgaard, but also young, experimenting composers fresh from the Royal Danish Academy of Music. MUSICAL PROFILE
We believe in focused artistic selection, strong personal expression, visionary musical thinking and in the power of art music to make a lasting difference for those who experience it. TALENT DEVELOPMENT
Empowering young, talented artists to live a professional life on the art music scene is one of our main objectives and therefore we enter working-relationships with composers from and early age to ensure the talent of future generations. EMBRACING IT ALL
We embrace in principle a composer’s entire artistic output, also when this reaches beyond the boundaries of what is traditionally seen as music. While a lot of composers work in traditional settings with solo, chamber, orchestral and dramatic musical forms, a growing number also drift onto other artistic scenes or come from starting points other than the traditional route provided by an academic education. They work with sound installations, electronic listening music, interactive performance, modern dance, experimental game soundtracks and more. And as the art scene thus changes, as the artists move along, so do we.

☀️ Skallsjö Sommarorkester goes on tour with Nancy Dalberg’s Scherzo for String Orchestra on the concert programme with performances in Sweden, Germany and Luxembourg.

Dalberg's Scherzo was premiered in 1914 at her first public appearance as a composer. It was not common for a female composer to debut with a full and ambitious concert programme and several critics took this as a staring point in their reviews. ”One can hardly sit for a whole evening admiring a lady’s energetic writing skills,” one critic wrote, while others were more positive: ”It was a well-structured, amusingly conceived and skillfully executed piece of music, which contained well-balanced contrasting effects within its concise form,” another critic concluded.

💡 Lorenzo Colombo brings Mads Emil Dreyer 's Repeater, quietus to Paris. 💡

In Repeater, quietus, Mads Emil Dreyer works with small percussion instruments and electronics. Contact microphones are attached to the instruments, capturing sound, and surface-transducers, a type of small speaker component, that release sounds.

This setup creates a series of small, closed circuits where what the microphones capture is sent out by the transducers, then picked up by the microphones and sent out by the transducers again. This process repeats over and over, transforming the instruments into small, independent and quite fragile feedback loop.

Since its creation in 1985, Ensemble recherche has made a truly significant contribution to the culture of contemporary music.

Now, they celebrate the ensemble’s 40th birthday with four concerts looking back – and forward – at some of the works and collaborations with composers that have shaped their creative identity.

Simon Steen-Andersen 'Im Rauschen' is performed at the third concert in the series - the piece was commissioned and premiered by Ensemble Recherche in 2012.

🥳 On a newly released album we can now listen to a part of Danish music history that has long remained hidden in the archives.

Ensemble MidtVest breathes new life into three of the most significant voices from the modern breakthrough of women in Danish music. Hilda Sehested, Nancy Dalberg and Tekla Griebel Wandall each succeeded in forging careers as composers at a time when such a path was nearly unheard of.

The album released by Dacapo Records presents a selection of chamber works, including several world premiere recordings, and allows these composers to emerge as original and distinctive voices on the threshold between late Romanticism and Modernism.

The music of Sehested, Dalberg and Griebel Wandall has been published for the first time in scholarly, performance-ready editions through the Danish Classical Music series at Edition·S.

🪈 On 2 July, John Frandsen's concerto for flute and orchestra, Beauty and the Beast is performed by Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá.

In this piece John Frandsen confronts the beauty of the light and elegant flute with the brutal energy of the orchestral beast.

"The concerto is not exactly a piece of programme music," Frandsen explains. "Rather a picture of different conflicts and meeting points between strong opposites. Will there be a happy end...?"

🎶 Theatre of Voices in Concert – June 28 at KoncertKirken, Copenhagen 🎶

Join the acclaimed vocal ensemble Theatre of Voices, led by Paul Hillier, for a special concert.

The programme features the piece Italian Lesson by Julia Wolfe and the new piece Fifth by Line Tjørnhøj.

Line Tjørnhøj has quite literally built Fifth around the number five: five singers, the circle of fifths, and every bar in 5/4 time. It’s a journey through fixed and partially improvised techniques, evoking a child’s breath after crying and the resonance of distant cultures.
