Massive changes incoming

The government of Denmark is tightening requirements for student visa from Bangladesh and Nepal. The government is now presenting a seven-point plan to stem the influx.

- It will no longer be possible for foreign students to bring their spouse and any children to Denmark.

- In the future, they must leave Denmark after a maximum of one year of job search instead of three, as is the case today.

- The entrance requirements for master's degree programs must be tightened, and the control of applicants' educational documents must be strengthened.

- In the future, a larger part of the price for studying in Denmark must be paid in advance of the stay.

- In addition, the government will retroactively reassess the residency of all Bangladeshi and Nepalese students.

Minister of Education and Research Christina Egelund (M) believes that the initiatives will make a difference.

It's about curbing the cheating that has taken place with fake exam papers and students who have entered without having the skills required, she tells DR.

🔥ডেনমার্কে উচ্চ শিক্ষা-সামনে বাংলাদেশীদের জন্য কঠিন সময় অপেক্ষা করছে!

সম্প্রতি ডেনমার্কের অভিবাসন মন্ত্রী Kaare Dybvad Bek দাবি করেছেন, বিদেশ থেকে আসা শিক্ষার্থীরা ডেনমার্কের জন্য বোঝা হয়ে দাঁড়ায়, এবং বিশেষভাবে নিলস ব্রুকের স্ক্যানডালে বাংলাদেশী স্টুডেন্টের নাম উল্লেখ্য বলেন, “ছাত্রত্বের নামে ওরা পড়াশোনা নয় বরং কাজ করতে ডেনমার্কে আসেন।”

👉 অভিবাসন মন্ত্রী আরও বলেন ডেনিশদের “ব্রিটিশ বা জার্মানদের সাথে ওদের বেশি মিল” আর “নেপালি বা সোমালিদের সাথে কম মিল”—এ বক্তব্য বর্ণবাদী ও বিভাজনমূলক। সমাজকে বিভক্ত করে ভোট পাওয়ার এই কৌশল ডেনমার্কের ন্যায়, সমতা ও মানবাধিকারের মূলনীতির পরিপন্থী।

যাহোক, ডেনিশ মন্ত্রীর উক্ত মন্তব্যের আমরা তীব্র প্রতিবাদ জানাই। ওর জানা দরকার ছিল, ডেনমার্কে পড়তে আসা বাংলাদেশি শিক্ষার্থীরা উল্লেখযোগ্য টিউশন ফি, ভাড়া, ট্যাক্স ও অন্যান্য খরচের মাধ্যমে ডেনিশ অর্থনীতিতে অবদান রাখে। গবেষণাতেও দেখা যায় আন্তর্জাতিক শিক্ষার্থীরা ডেনমার্কের জন্য দীর্ঘমেয়াদে লাভজনক।

👉 দ্বিতীয়ত, কাজ করা এবং পড়াশোনার পাশাপাশি খণ্ডকালীন চাকরি করা আইনসিদ্ধ—যা শুধু বাংলাদেশি নয়, সকল আন্তর্জাতিক শিক্ষার্থীর ক্ষেত্রেই প্রযোজ্য। তাহলে কেন শুধু বাংলাদেশিদের আলাদা করে কলঙ্কিত করেছেন যা অগ্রহণযোগ্য।
