11.5 years ago, I landed in Denmark with zero friends, no network, and no clear direction.
And to top it off—I wasn’t in Copenhagen, I was in Odense.
Coming from São Paulo, it felt like I’d stepped onto another planet.
Before moving, I started a blog about Brazil’s business landscape—exploring market trends, regulations, and opportunities. I interviewed local operators, shared insights, and positioned myself as the bridge between Brazil and Europe.
Then reality hit:
• 300+ job applications
• Only a few responses
• No job
But my content kept gaining attention on LinkedIn.
Around October 2013, something changed.
A Danish design company reached out:
“Carlos, let’s chat. We’re expanding to Brazil.”
That conversation led to my first paid gig.
Soon after, a journalist discovered my blog.
With the World Cup and Olympics approaching, Brazil was the talk of the town.
I did an interview, and a Sunday newspaper headlined me as “the Brazilian who’s going to help Danish companies succeed in Brazil.”
The very next day, I received a message from the VP of Sales at DSV, Denmark’s largest logistics company.
This journey taught me powerful lessons:
✔ Positioning matters.
✔ Relationships open doors.
✔ Expertise is all about perception.
I’m not talking about empty “personal branding” BS
We’re often our own harshest critics, but our experiences have immense value.
If you’re navigating a transition—you’re not an imposter. Sometimes, all you need is the right community.
