With the World Championship in Gothenburg around the corner, you’ll want to keep a close eye on some of these Scandinavian Vikings. Podiums? Maybe. Contenders? Absolutely.

The king of grip, , is a serious podium threat. With a wealth of international races and titles under his belt, he may just be one of Scandinavia’s finest athletes. If you’re searching for him on race day, don’t look in the middle of the pack—look up front.
ekstrom98 claimed a solid victory at the Swedish Championships in the 400-meter sprint and the short course, which also doubled as the Nordic Championship—meaning two titles in one go. He also took silver at the European Championships in the 400-meter sprint and the team race, proving he’s a man for the big stage.

Tobias Jäger deserves a mention as well. He secured a podium finish at the Nordic Championships in the 3K in Torshälla and looks ready to push the very best.

Andreas Öberg added a bronze at the Nordics to his résumé. A strong trail runner with plenty of experience, Andreas doesn’t shy away from technical challenges. Obstacles? For him, they’re just another playground for his ninja-like skills.

Martin Bäckström hardly needs an introduction, but it would be rude not to give him one. If there’s a Scandinavian athlete with a track record worth bragging about, it’s him. Take his Toughest Oslo run at Holmenkollen: 8K, 29 obstacles, all wrapped up in just 44 minutes. Yes—he did that.

Ånung Viken combines speed with climbing ability, giving him grip strength that could prove decisive in Gothenburg. Don’t be surprised if he climbs the ranks as easily as he climbs walls.

Finally, keep an eye on . A sharp terrain runner with a highly technical approach to obstacles, he has the tools to surprise—and the engine to stay with the best.

Who to Look Out For!

The World Championships are fast approaching, and we take a quick look at some of the standout Scandinavians on the starting list.

Competing on home turf may give the Swedes a slight edge, as many of the obstacles are sourced from Toughest, one of Sweden’s top OCR races.

Maja Wellner has shown true class at the recent Nordic Championships, taking three podiums across the Short, Standard, and Sprint races. She’ll certainly be a tough cookie to beat in Gothenburg.

Linnea Stenson is a strong runner and excels on obstacles. She claimed 2nd place at the Nordic Championships and most recently finished 3rd at the Harbour Challenge in Randers, Denmark. She appears to be in excellent form.

Siri Englund secured 3rd at the Nordic Championships and brings the experience to dig deep on the standard course and keep pushing when it counts.

Signy Karoline Kolstø is the current Norwegian National Champion and a 2024 European Team Race Champion and took 2nd place in the Team Race at the 2023 World Championships—proof of her ability to perform on the biggest stage.

Katrine Leveraas is a true legend of the sport. She was Norwegian Champion in 2024, won the 2024 European Championship Team Race, earned podium finishes at the European Championships in 2022, 2023, and 2025, and came 2nd in the 2023 Team Race at the World Championships.

Ulrikke Evensen has battled injuries, but if she’s fit, she’s a podium contender in any race. Her strengths shine on longer distances—she is the 2024 OCR World Champion (3k & 15k), Spartan Ultra World Champion 2024, OCR European & National Champion, and a four-time National Trail Running Champion.

Henriette Bardrum dominates wherever she goes. She won the 2025 Danish National Championships (400m), took 2nd at the 2025 European Championships (400m), and 3rd at the 2024 European Championships (Short Course). On top of that, she is the 2023 World Champion in the Team Race.

Scandinavia is bringing some serious firepower to Gothenburg this year—expect the battles to be intense!

It is not just a live feed or stationary camera fixed on the start line.

We actively follow the athletes on parts of the course, hoping to capture the battle for the podium.
