LAFOND FALLS SHORT IN OLYMPIC TRIPLE JUMP FINALS

Tough break for Olympic Athlete Thea Lafond in the Women's Triple Jump Finals at the .

Lafond who headed into the finals with a strong showing in the preliminary round, was unable to replicate that form.

Lafond fouled her first attempt, then jumped a modest 12.57 meters on her second attempt.

Needing to get at least 14.25 meters on her third jump to get into the final 8, Lafond fouled the 3rd attempt.

Lafond ended the night in 12th position with a jump of 12.57 meters.

LUKE STUMBLES IN OLYMPIC QUALIFIER

National Athlete Dennick Luke's dreams of qualifying for the next round of the men's 800 meter event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics ended on a sad note.

Luke who was running in lane 8 in heat number 5, collided with another runner and tumbled on the track.

Luke was looking very solid in the race up until his unfortunate tumble.

Luke recovered strongly but in the end it was too much to overcome, and he finished in 8th place in a time of 1 minute, 54.30 seconds.

The heat was won by JT lopez of mexico in a time of 1 minute 46.14 seconds.

BREAKING: THEA LAFOND QUALIFIES FOR WOMENS TRIPLE JUMP FINALS

Thea Lafond has qualifed for the finals of the women's triple jump at the tokyo 2020 olympic games.

She did so with an impressive jump of 14.60 to set a new national record in her first jump.
The automatic qualifying mark was 14.40 meters.

Lafond breezed into the finals needing just one of her 3 alloted jumps to meet the qualification mark.

The finals of the womens triple jump will be held on Sunday.

LAFOND BEGINS OLYMPIC RUN

National Triple Jumper and Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Thea Lafond begins her quest for Olympic Gold in just a few minutes in the Women's Triple Jump at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo Japan.

The event gets underway at 6:05 am Friday July 30th Caribbean time.

Lafond has been placed in Group B and will jump at number 15 in her group which includes a total of 17 jumpers.

Lafond's first target will be to achieve the 14.40 meters mark to qualify for the finals.

Qualification Rules for the Women's Triple Jump are as follows.

(1) Qualifying performance 14.40 (Q) or at least 12 best performers (q) advance to the Final.

Lafond who is currently ranked at number 12 in the World, has a personal best and season best jump of 14.54 meters which was achieved earlier this year while competing in the United States.
