Parliament has unanimously approved a motion to posthumously confer the Dominica Award of Honour (D.A.H.) on former Prime Ministers Roosevelt Douglas and Pierre Charles for their devoted service to the nation.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said this recognition, coming as Dominica celebrates its 47th Anniversary of Independence, is a fitting tribute to two patriots whose leadership helped shape our country’s journey.

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy, Hon. Roland Royer, credited Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit’s visionary leadership for making this groundbreaking initiative a reality and praised Ambassador Francine Baron for her vital technical support.

Flag Day Celebrated with National Pride

On the morning of October 14, 2025, Her Excellency Sylvanie Burton, President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, met with President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

The meeting took place during President Burton’s visit to China for the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women. On the same day, she also met with Wang Huning, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

First Lady Peng Liyuan, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women Sima Bahous, Mr. Burton, and other spouses of world leaders attended an exhibition showcasing digital and intelligent empowerment for women and girls, highlighting innovation, inclusion, and collaboration for gender equality.

Voter confirmation begins on October 15, 2025.

Eligible electors, those already on the voters’ list as of May 2025, must confirm their registration in the constituency where they are registered to vote. Each applicant must be accompanied by a witness from the same polling district, and all documents presented must be verified with their original copies.

According to Chief Elections Officer Ms. Anthea Joseph, confirmation will not take place overseas. Meanwhile, Electoral Commission Chairman Mr. Duncan Stowe says these reforms are a step toward a more transparent and inclusive electoral process, strengthening trust between the people and the institutions that safeguard their voice.
