The Trew family has moved into the newest construction on the finca, an adobe home built with an Ecuadorian foundation, limewashed and plastered walls, a compost toilet and so much room to get creative! Bringing in the tractor for landscaping soon!

This week a fire broke out in El Sauce, Tumianuma, the neighborhood an hour walk away, where most of our work partners live. The volunteer firefighters responded bravely, fighting the mountain fire even without proper equipment.

The fire claimed 5 hectares but there were no homes or lives lost. A scary experience for all involved, and we are truly grateful for the local bomberos who rose to combat the threat!

Esta semana se desató un incendio en El Sauce, Tumianuma, el barrio a una hora a pie donde viven la mayoría de nuestros colaboradores. Los bomberos voluntarios respondieron con valentía, combatiendo el fuego en la montaña incluso sin el equipo adecuado.

El incendio arrasó 5 hectáreas, pero no hubo pérdidas de viviendas ni de vidas. Fue una experiencia aterradora para todos los involucrados, ¡y estamos profundamente agradecidos con los bomberos locales que acudieron a combatir la amenaza!

We absolutely love getting creative with the amazing things we find around the farm.

Heavy rains over a year ago washed up lots of trees and driftwood along our quebrada and the river, and we have been putting them to use ever since!

With the Trew's house nearly done, it is time for them to begin furnishing and here you can see the first stage of creating a dining table from one of the trees that washed up over a year ago.

Nos encanta dar rienda suelta a nuestra creatividad con los objetos increíbles que encontramos en la granja.

Las fuertes lluvias de hace más de un año arrastraron muchos árboles y madera flotante a lo largo de nuestra quebrada y el río, ¡y desde entonces los hemos estado aprovechando!

Con la casa de los Trew casi terminada, es hora de que empiecen a amueblarla, y aquí pueden ver la primera etapa de la creación de una mesa de comedor con uno de los árboles que arrastraron la corriente hace más de un año.

The Trew family has a lot of lime left over from their house build, so we decided to spruce up some of the community buildings as well!

It's amazing that more people don't use limewash. It's so simple, very low cost and so easy to make repairs from children's shenanigans!

If you're interested in limewash or lime plastering, come visit us or consider our internship program! There are many more projects that we will be working on with this wonderful natural material!

La familia Trew tenía mucha cal sobrante de la construcción de su casa, ¡así que decidimos renovar también algunos edificios comunitarios!

Es sorprendente que no se use más cal. Es tan sencilla, económica y fácil de reparar después de las travesuras de los niños.

Este video se filmó hace 14 meses y nunca se compartió. Cristian plantó la semilla que ahora germina a través de nuestra campaña Ma Earth, ¡que ha sido un éxito rotundo!

Es una especie animal en peligro crítico de extinción, de la cual solo quedan 16 poblaciones conocidas, y una de ellas se encuentra en nuestra Reserva Kuntur Wachana 🌱🌳

Six years later, Kai has given hundreds of unpaid hours a year to bringing Kuntur Wachana back to life. Explore the collaborations between the university (UTPL) and residents of Loja in reforesting Kuntur Wachana and protecting the habitat of the endangered Viscacha.
