Some collaborations just feel right. 🌾
We’re proud to have our natural reed straws find a home at FUME - one of Tallinn’s most exciting restaurants, where fire meets flavor in the heart of Rotermann Quarter.
A hand-crafted grill from Madrid. An open kitchen that invites you in. And a reed straw in your glass, grown by nature, designed with intention.
Thank you, FUME, for choosing something real. 💚

You want to make your bar or restaurant more sustainable — for real.

But the market is packed with labels like “eco”, “bio”, “compostable”… while the actual conditions are buried in fine print. Or missing entirely.

A simple decision — made deliberately difficult.

Here’s the truth behind the three straws:

➡️ Biomass straw (wood dust, bamboo fibre, avocado seed…) - Commonly labelled “biodegradable.” The hard truth: most require industrial composting — facilities that most regions simply don’t have.

➡️ Paper straw - Feels like the obvious safe choice. The hard truth: most contain plastic coatings, synthetic glues, dyes, or PFAS chemicals — making them unsuitable for composting. In any conditions.

➡️ Reed straw - One ingredient. Reed plant. That’s it. No coatings. No binders. No hidden chemistry. Biodegrades with your food waste — anywhere, in under a year.

The label says “”eco.”” The ingredients tell a different story.

The questions we get every week.

“Is it really plastic-free?” “Are there any coatings or glues?” “What does ‘biodegradable’ actually mean in real life?”

We kept hearing the same things—so we put the answers in one place: clear, simple, and without the green fog. Swipe the carousel for the quick FAQ, and if you want us to add more (sizes, best drink matches, disposal, branding), tell us what you’d like next in the comments.

Harvesting season is here — so it’s a good time to talk about why reed is more than “just a plant on the shoreline”.

Reed is nature’s filter. It doesn’t only capture CO₂ as it grows — it also takes up nitrogen and phosphorus from the water. Those are the exact nutrients driving eutrophication in the Baltic Sea.

So what is eutrophication in human language? It’s basically overfeeding: too many nutrients → uncontrolled growth → when that biomass dies and decomposes, it consumes oxygen. Water turns murky, ecosystems start suffocating.

Reed overgrowth has accelerated dramatically. With higher nutrient loads and less coastal grazing, reed can expand into dense monocultures that crowd out other vegetation and reduce biodiversity across huge coastal areas.

The twist: cutting reed down can help — if it’s done right. Harvesting removes those nutrients from the system, and reed grows back in one season. That’s why we see reed as a future material: fast-regenerating, abundant, and useful.

But ecosystems aren’t a lawn. Some species depend on reed habitats, so timing + pattern harvesting + responsible practices matter.

So yes — let’s clean up our Baltic Sea and turn that biomass into something useful.
