Blue Scarab Entertainment formed by Helldivers 2 and Battlefield alums

A new developer by the name of Blue Scarab Entertainment has formed over in Stockholm, Sweden, securing $7 million in funding for its debut project, an MMORPG running on Unreal Engine 5.
The funding round was led by NetEase Games, which has previously invested in startups like Rebel Wolves. Other key contributors include Behold Ventures, Raw Fury founder Jonas Antonsson, and Creandum founder Stefan Lindeberg.
Blue Scarab will be led by CEO Colin Cragg and CTO Enno Rehling. Both have extensive experience with MMOs: Cragg directed and designed Funcom's Anarchy Online, while Rehling was a programmer on the same game and also Dreamfall: The Longest Journey.

Bungie devs imply CEO drove studio off a cliff while chasing growth

Developers at Bungie have spoken out about what led to the studio's newest round of layoffs earlier this week, which had been reportedly planned for some time.
Talking to Bloomberg, current and former staff say Bungie "grew too fast" and overextended itself with potential projects. They also put much of their ire on CEO Pete Parsons, who reportedly "failed to take accountability" for his part in these cuts.
Following these new layoffs, several former Bungie employees (and Destiny 2 players) actively called on Parsons to resign, alleging he was to blame for the studio's "overly ambitious" failures.

Payload Studios is laying off 25 percent of its workforce

TerraTech developer Payload Studios has laid off 25 percent of its workforce. Payload CEO and founder Russ Clarke confirmed the news on Linkedin and said the cuts are a result of the "struggles affecting wider games industry."
"We tried very hard to avoid this, and I won't pretend that we got everything right over the last few years—but ultimately the games market has been very tough in recent times, and shows little sign of getting easier. Small independents like us have no protection from this, other than 'nailing it' every time, which is much easier said than done," said Clarke.

Bandai Namco Online torches Blue Protocol and terminates publishing deal with Amazon Games

Blue Protocol, the online action RPG developed by Bandai Namco Online, is being scrapped. A statement on the Blue Protocol website explains the title will be axed in January 2025.
Bandai Namco Online described the decision to end service as "difficult" and confirmed plans to release the title in the West in collaboration with publisher Amazon Games have also been shelved.
"We have enjoyed a strong relationship with Amazon Games throughout the development of Blue Protocol, and both of our teams are disappointed that we will not be able to deliver the game to players around the world," reads the statement.
