How was King Tutankhamun prepared for eternal life?
After the death of King Tutankhamun, the ancient Egyptians began precise rituals to prepare his body according to their beliefs about life after death.
The primary goal was to preserve the body for as long as possible, because the Egyptians believed that the body had an important role in man's journey to eternal life.
The body was cleaned and dried with natron, a natural salt that helped remove moisture and preserve tissue. After that, the body was carefully treated, and oils, aromatics and resins were used that helped in the preservation process.
The body was then carefully wrapped in layers of linen, with amulets and religious symbols placed between the scrolls for protection, before the king was placed inside several coffins and buried in his famous tomb in the Valley of the Kings.
The case of Tutankhamun's mummy today is one of the most important pieces of evidence that reveal to us the extent of the ancient Egyptians' development in the arts of preservation and funerary rituals
