Beyond Borders travels to Alexandria, Egypt to explore the modern Library, the spiritual successor to the Great Library. It is unclear what happened to the Great Library, with apocryphal stories, and finger-pointing too often posing as fact. But what is clear is that it has taking on a mythic status as both a symbol of the acquisition of knowledge, and its tragic loss. Host Erik Niel Amin explores what we do know about one of the great ancient wonders of the world, and how it connects to us in the modern world.

Host Matthew Millan travels to Bristol, England to meet Alan Chambers MBE, one of the most accomplished polar explorers of his generation. Recapturing the spirit of the heroic age of polar exploration, Alan Chambers led the first successful British unsupported expedition from Canada to the Geographic North Pole. They walked 672 nautical miles in temperatures as low as -65°C, dragging a sledge the weight of a baby elephant. After a gruelling seventy days on the ice, on 16th May 2000, Alan and his teammate raised the Union Jack.

Since that remarkable achievement, Alan hasn't let up. He has subsequently led over a dozen North Pole expeditions with top business leaders and chief executives, and led an expedition to the South Pole at the end of 2019. Like the great explorers of the past, Alan is a dreamer who through meticulous planning, and sheer force of will, stretches the limits of human achievement.

Beyond Borders Mission

How to get people to care? One way is to create bullet Docs that transport the audience to a different point of view. This can stimulate them to critically challenge the norms and tradition that govern their lives.

In doing our part to facilitate knowledge, Beyond Borders was designed with instructors in mind. Knowing that teachers are the expediters of ideas and information, we also provide supplemental worksheets for instructors to give as a quick lesson. It is our hope that students of all ages get inspired to look at their world and give something positive back.
