: Cairo traffic is, as everyone knows, unbearable, so we’re skipping it entirely and taking the Nile. No, not in a felukah, not in a sailboat, and not in a “water taxi” – in a car.
If you stroll past Jet Car’s Manial port/garage, you’d probably stop dead in your tracks and dial the police, because who put all these cars in the Nile? But fret not - the cars in question, a range of models and colours, are actually hydrophilic and can speed up to 120 km/hour. They’re built in Egypt by a local craftsman, and they come with everything you find in a normal car and then some: a steering wheel, gear shift, dashboard, and even a digital screen. What started as a humble project is now a unique experience that’s being exported to over 70 countries.
Anyone can cruise the Nile in a fully functional G-class by booking their ride through Jet Car’s Instagram. No one can drive said G-class, though, because, even if you have a driving license, getting a license to drive on water is still uncharted territory. If you’re nice, maybe you can pick the music.
