amb. affirms strong ties with Egypt, praises its refugee support
Dutch Ambassador to Egypt Peter Mollema reaffirmed the strong bilateral relations between Egypt and the Netherlands and the close friendship between President Abdel Fattah El and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
Ambassador Mollema noted that this was evident during President Sisi’s meeting with the Dutch, Belgian, and Luxembourgish Prime Ministers, which lasted over an hour during the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum ( ).
He said there was consensus on supporting Egypt’s foreign policy, including efforts to rebuild Gaza, end violence in Sudan, restore stability in Libya, reinforce Egypt’s stance against illegal migration, and recognize Egypt’s role in hosting refugees.
The ambassador made these remarks in an interview with Amr Mabrouq on the program "Alam El-Ma'rifa", broadcast on 95.4 FM, European Program, Egyptian Radio.
He said that Egypt and the Netherlands collaborate in agriculture, agricultural product development, green hydrogen, and renewable energy.
He highlighted Egypt’s infrastructure projects in roads, bridges, and railways, noting their role in supporting tourism and encouraging further investment.
Ambassador Mollema said that Egypt welcomes some 350,000 Dutch tourists each year, a figure likely to grow with enhanced transportation and the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum, which he and President Sisi hailed as a gift to humanity.
He expressed confidence in the future of Egyptian-Dutch relations, noting that the Egypt-EU strategic partnership enhances bilateral cooperation in various sectors.
The ambassador also announced that KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will launch a direct flight to Cairo, complementing the existing EgyptAir route.
Mollema has a distinguished diplomatic career, having served in the United States, at the United Nations, and in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Palestine.
