Chinese President Xi Jinping left Beijing on Sunday for Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2026, before making state visits to Kyrgyzstan and Egypt.
Xi is visiting the two countries at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, respectively.
Xi is accompanied by his wife, Peng Liyuan, as well as Foreign Minister Wang Yi, and Cai Qi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Standing Committee.
During his Egypt visit, China’s president is scheduled to hold talks with El-Sisi on the two countries’ strategic partnership as well as regional and international issues.
The visit is taking place on the 70th anniversary of Egypt-China diplomatic ties and over a decade since the two countries elevated their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Economic Ties
In 2016, Xi paid a state visit to Egypt, when he announced the two countries planned to establish projects in electricity, infrastructure and transport, with a combined value of up to $15 billion.
During the visit, Xi and El-Sisi jointly inaugurated the second phase of the China-Egypt Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone.

The zone has attracted more than 200 companies, $4.7 billion in investment and over 10,000 direct jobs by the end of June, according to the Chinese government.
Trade has emerged as a key pillar of Egypt-China ties, with bilateral trade reaching around $20.78 billion at the end of 2025, up from $17.37 billion in 2024 — an annual increase of nearly 19.6%, according to Egypt’s State Information Service (SIS).
China Visit
El-Sisi’s 2024 state visit to China saw the two presidents underscore the importance of aligning Egypt’s Vision 2030 for sustainable development with China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
