The Peace Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh witnessed Monday the signing ceremony of the leaders of the mediating countries on a document to support the agreement reached Oct. 9, as in ending the war comprehensively, completing the entire process of the prisoner swap, enforcing the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and supplying Gaza with humanitarian aid.

According to an Egyptian presidential statement, world leaders agreed to begin consultations on mechanisms to implement the next stages of U.S. President Donald Trump’s settlement plan, starting with governance, security, and reconstructing the Gaza Strip, and ending with the political path for the settlement.

The participating leaders valued Egypt’s role, under President El-Sisi’s patronage, in leading humanitarian efforts since the outbreak of the war.

Its role in mediation, culminating in the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement and convening the Peace Summit, was also commended.

Further, U.S. President Donald Trump’s efforts to end the war through his proposed plan, as well as Qatar and Turkey’s mediation efforts were also praised.

The statement attributed the high-level international participation to the global support for efforts to end the war, thanking all the leaders who attended the summit.

“Egypt will continue to cooperate with its regional and international partners to close this painful chapter in the history of the Middle East and the world. A chapter in which mankind lost much of its humanity, the rule-based international system lost much of its credibility, and the peoples of the region lost their sense of safety.”

Egypt reiterated that instability in the Middle East stems from denying the Palestinian people self-determination, emphasizing that they have endured suffering like no other nation throughout modern history, yet remained resilient.

“Egypt will remain a source of support for them and continue to back their resilience and their legitimate, inalienable rights, including the right to self-determination, and their right to live in safety and peace, like all other peoples of the world, in an independent state living side-by-side with Israel, on their land in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, under their legitimate leadership and along the June 4, 1967 borders, in accordance with international law and relevant resolutions of international legitimacy.”

Egypt’s vision of the “new Middle East,” according to the statement, is one “built on justice, equality of rights, good neighborliness, and peaceful coexistence among all its peoples without exception.”
