Mercedes‑Benz CLE 200 .
The CLE 200 arrives as the base petrol version in the all-new CLE range from Mercedes‑Benz, bringing sporty coupé styling and luxury credentials into a more accessible ride.
At its heart lies a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder mild-hybrid engine producing about 204 PS (≈201 hp) and 320 Nm of torque. Paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, it sprints from 0-100 km/h in around 7.4-7.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of ~236 km/h. The WLTP-derived combined fuel consumption is in the ballpark of 6.8-7.1 L/100 km (≈40-44 mpg) depending on configuration.
On the design front, the CLE 200 sports a sleek profile with panoramic cabin, premium materials, and the latest MBUX infotainment package, signalling the upscale feel Mercedes intends. Interior packaging is decent for a two-door coupé: its luggage space is quoted at ~420 L for the Coupé, showing respectable utility.
However, being the entry trim it entails certain compromises. The performance is modest when stacked against higher CLE variants or sport rivals: while acceleration is adequate, it lacks the outright urgency and refinement of more potent six-cylinders. Some feature levels and optional upgrades will likely require stepping up in trim. Furthermore, its two-door format means rear-seat access and space may feel tighter than four-door alternatives.
For those seeking a stylish, fresh Mercedes-branded coupé with luxury-car ambience and capable everyday performance, the CLE 200 offers a compelling mix. If you prioritise outright speed or maximum refinement, you might favour a higher-spec variant. On the whole, it strikes a sensible balance between aspirational badge value and accessible performance.
