How did you reach where you are today?
Honestly I think there comes a certain point when you pause and reflect and start thinking about who I am and what I am doing. I don’t focus on where I am right now but I look back at the journey and think if I made it this far then there is more to come. The person who made me realize this is one of my teachers. So where I am today is all because where I was.

ازاي وصلتي للمكان الي انتي فيه النهاردة؟
بصراحة أظن إن في نقطة معينة لما توقف وتتأمل وتبدأ تفكر أنا مين وبعمل ايه. انا مش بركز على مكاني في الوقت الحالي ، بس ببص للوراء على الرحلة وأظن لو قطعت المسافة دي كلها ففي حاجات اكبر هتيجي في المستقبل. الشخص الي خلاني الاحظ ده هو واحد من المدرسين بتوعي.

How did it all start?
It started when i realized that football is more of a passion rather than a hobby. When I started playing professionally in Wadi Degla when I was 14 years old I realized there are things to accomplish. Then I played at Maadi Club AUC, then I traveled to play in Canada on a sports scholarship in Vancouver Island University. The journey literally started as a hobby then I ended up playing abroad and for the national team. However, I still have a dream to play one day in a club in Europe. Then I started Empower Football Academy which has been years in though and months in the making. Before playing in Wadi Deglas I used to play at a boys academy in Gezira Club. So I always wondered why there isn't a girls football academy and I promised myself at that time that I am going to start my own football academy. Then I traveled and got my degree in physical education and my graduation paper was on how to start a girls football academy. I interviewed the biggest managers of girl teams in Canada and gained lots of knowledge. Then I came back to Egypt to start Empower.

ازاي مشوارك بدأ؟
بدأ لما لاحظت إن كرة القدم هي مش هوية، فأنا عندي شغف ليها. لما بدأت ألعب بشكل احترافي في وادي دجلة لما كان عندي 14 سنة ، لاحظت إن في حاجات كثير الواحد ممكن يحققها. بعديها لعبت في نادي المعادي والجامعة الأمريكية وبعديها سافرت عشان العب في كندا على منحة رياضية في جامعة “فانكوفر ايلند”. الرحلة حرفيًا بدأت كهواية ، بعديها بدأت العب بره مصر ومع المنتخب الوطني. بس انا لسه عندي حلم إني العب في نادي في أوروبا. بعد كده بدأت أكاديمية “امباور” لكرة القدم . قبل ما ألعب في وادي دجلة كنت بلعب في أكاديمية للأولاد في نادي الجزيرة. كنت دائما بسأل هو ليه فيش أكاديمية للبنات لكرة القدم ، و وعدت نفسي ساعتها إني هبدأ أكاديمية كرة قدم للبنات. بعديها سافرت وأخدت شهادتي في التربية البدنية ومشروع التخرج بتاعي كان عن كيفية بدء أكاديمية كرة قدم للبنات. قابلت أكبر مديري فرق البنات في كندا واكتسبت خبرة كثير وبعديها رجعت مصر

What is the key to success to life?
I think it is believing that your best is enough. Alot of people bring themselves down thinking that their best is not enough. What makes me not give up believing that I did my best.

ايه سر النجاح في الحياة؟
أظن إنه الإيمان بقدراتك. الكثير من الناس بيحبطوا نفسهم ظنًا إن أحسن حاجة عندهم مش كفاية. الي بيخليني مستسلمش هو الإيمان إني عملت أحسن حاجة عندي.

What is your purpose in life?
Live it to the full potential and then pass it on to someone else. I think my purpose in life is to inspire and motivate other people to do what they love most.

إيه غايتك في الحياة؟
عشها للأقصى وبعديها مهد الطريق لشخص بعدك. أظن إن غايتي في الحياة هي إلهام وتحفيز الناس إنهم يعملوا الي بيحبوه.

What is the biggest lesson you have learned from life?
The biggest lesson is that we need other people's help. There came a point in my life in Canada where i thought i don't need anyone. Then in my career there, I realized you can’t go far without people.

إيه أكبر درس اتعلمتيه في حياتك؟
الدرس الأكبر هو إننا محتاجين مساعدة الناس. كان في نقطة في حياتي في كندا كنت مؤمنة إني مش محتاجة اي حد. بعديها في شغلي هناك لاحظت اني مينفعش انجح من غير مساعدة الناس.

Tell us about a moment where you reached rock bottom?
There was a day where I told myself what am I doing here I keep trying my best and it is not enough. I’m not improving, I get injured so why am I not home. At that moment it was fate. I got a message from a 16 year old girl in Egypt. I literally woke up and said I'm not going to practice. I got this message on Instagram and she said I am a football player and I recently started my own team my school and I am pursuing and academy team and its all because of you. It was huge for me and I really needed to hear how she felt because it pushed me out of bed that day.

احكيلنا عن لحظة وصلتي فيها للقاع؟
كان في يوم قلت فيه لنفسي انا بعمل ايه هنا، انا بحاول على قد ما اقدر ومش كفاية. انا مش بتحسن ، انا بتصاب فا ليه مقعدش في البيت احسن. اللحظة دي كانت قدر، جاتلي رسالة من بنت عندها 16 سنة بتلعب كرة قدم. انا فعلا صحيت وقلت اني مش هروح التمرين. جاتلي الرسالة على انستجرام وقالت لي إنها لعيبة كرة وبدأت فرقتها في المدرسة وبتاوصل إنها تفتح أكاديمية وكله بسببي أنا. الموضوع كان كبير بالنسبة لي وكنت فعلا محتاجة اسمع البنت دي عشان يوميها قومت من السرير وروحت التمرين.

What is the biggest challenge you've faced so far?
Balancing the time between being their friend and being their coach. To manage the flexibility is really important as they need to know that I am the coach so there is a certain level of respect and authority. I am also their friend and also a player so balancing both and being both people at the same time is my biggest challenge.

إيه أكبر تحدي واجهتي في حياتك؟
تحقيق التوازن بين بين كوني صديقة ومدربه. إدارة المرونة مهمة جدا عشان هما محتاجين يعرفوا إن أنا المدربه ففي مستوى معين من الاحترام والسلطة. أنا برضه صاحبتهم ولعيبة، فتحقيق التوازن بين كوني لعيبة ومدربه هو أكبر تحد لي.

Tell us about a moment of happiness?
A few months ago I was listening on a conversation between one of the assistant coaches and a 7 year old player. The coach was asking her what do you want to be when you grow up and the girl said I want to be a soccer coach because of Coach Farida. To me that was a very happy moment.

احكيلنا عن لحظة سعادة؟
من كام شهر كنت بسمع حوار بين واحدة من المساعدين ولاعيبة عندها 7 سنين. سألتها عايزة تطلعي إيه لما تكبري؟ قالت عايزة أكون مدربه كرة عشان فريدة. بالنسبة لي دي كانت لحظة سعيدة اوي.

Tell us about something no one knows about you?
I have a phobia of the Sphinx and I like watching ants as I am fascinated by their teamwork.

انا عندي فوبيا من أبوالهول وبحب أتفرج على النمل.

What makes you Hend Sabry?
A mix of talent, luck, alot of hardwork, and flexibility to change. I changed environments and moved from my home country Tunisia, I wasn’t afraid to come to Egypt. It wasn’t a friendly environment at the beginning, but there was alot of perseverance, social intelligence, and hard work. Also my background of law gave me another perspective to things and helped me alot to become who I am today.

إيه الي بيخليكي هند صبري؟
مزيج من الموهبة، والحظ، وشغل بجد، ومرونة للتغيير. أنا غيرت بيئتي ونقلت من بلدي تونس، ومكنتش خايفة إني اجي مصر. مكنتش بيئة حلوة في الأول، بس كان في مثابرة كثير وذكاء اجتماعي وشغل بجد. و عشان كان عندي خلفية في الحقوق فبقى عندي وجهة نظر مختلفة وده ساعدني اوي إني أوصل للمكان الي أنا فيه النهاردة.

How did your passion for acting start?
It started way after I started acting. I started acting by accident, it was a happy accident. But I did not have that passion before I tried. I think I got hooked when I started having a relationship with the camera. I didn’t know cause I was 14, and I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do. I never had this instinct that I want to act. I was actually a very academic girl, and that passion came after I got casted for my first film ‘Samt el Qosor’ when I was 14. I think the Camera chose me before I chose her. Acting chose me before I chose it.

إزاي شغفك للتمثيل بدأ؟
شغفي بدأ بعد لما بدأت تمثيل. بدأت تمثيل بالصدفة، كانت صدفة حلوة. بس مكنش عندي الشغف ده قبل لما أحاول. أظن إني أدمنت التمثيل لما بدأ يبقى عندي علاقة مع الكاميرا. مكنتش عارفة عشان كان عندي 14 سنة، ومكنتش عارفة بالظبط أنا عايزة أعمل إيه. مكنش عندي الغريزة خالص إني أمثل. أنا في الواقع كنت فتاة أكاديمية جداً، والشغف ده جه بعد لما جالي أول دور في فيلم "صمت القصور" لما كان عندي 14 سنة. أعتقد إن الكاميرا هي الي اختارتني قبل اما أختارها. التمثيل اختارني قبل لما اختاره.

What is the key to success to life?
The key to success in life is not they key to success in work. I think that success in life is a good combination of peace, serenity, courage, bravery, and sense of belonging to a set of values or a family. A belief in something, this is the key to success. When you believe in whatever you do, may it be your work, or building a family, or your hobby. You have to believe that this is what your core or essence is really about. The key to success in life is being truly aligned with who you are really inside.

إيه هو سر النجاح في الحياة؟
سر النجاح في الحياة مش سر النجاح في العمل. أعتقد إن النجاح في الحياة هو مزيج من السلام، والهدوء، والشجاعة، والشعور بالانتماء لمجموعة من القيم أو أسرة. الاعتقاد في شيء ما، هو ده سر النجاح. لما تؤمن بل بتعمله، ممكن يكون شغلك، أو بناء عائلة، أو هوايتك. لازم تؤمن بإن هو ده جوهرك. سر النجاح في الحياة هو إنك تتماشى فعلا مع جوهرك من جوه.

What are your plans for the future?
Being more successful in my life, not in work. My plans are to balance my life between my work and other things I would like to do. Traveling, reading, and having more time with myself and girls. It is finding a balance, because being a workaholic is not always a key to success in life.

إيه أهدافك في الحياة؟
إني أكون ناجحة أكثر في حياتي، ومش في الشغل. هدفي هو الموازنة بين حياتي وشغلي وحاجات ثانية عايز أعملها. السفر والقراءة وإن يبقى عندي وقت أكثر مع نفسي وبناتي. فعايزة الاقي التوازن، لإن ادمان الشغل مش دائما سر للنجاح في الحياة.

What is the biggest lesson you have learned from life?
I learn everyday. The biggest lesson would be don’t force yourself to be someone you're not. There is always an inner voice that tells you that this is not you. You should listen to that inner voice. It might feel appropriate now but it's not who you are. So the biggest lesson is to try to stick to my my essence, my core, and not to force fate or destiny.

إيه أكبر درس اتعلمتيه في حياتك؟
أنا بتعلم كل يوم. أكبر درس هو إنك متجبرش نفسك إنك تكون شخص مش انت. دائمًا في صوت داخلي بيقولك إن ده مش انت. لازم تسمع الصوت الداخلي ده. فأكبر درس هو إنك تحاول تمسك في جوهرك، ومتفرضش القدر.

Tell us about your biggest disappointment?
I am trying to see everything as an opportunity to grow but never as a disappointment.

إيه أكثر حاجة خذلتك في حياتك؟
بحاول أشوف كل حاجة كفرصة للنمو مش كخذلان.

What is the biggest challenge you've faced so far?
The biggest challenge is making it big while I started from my very small home country and making it in the whole Arab world. Because it's not a given, I had to work really hard for it.

إيه أكبر تحدي واجهك في حياتك؟
التحدي الأكبر هو إني أوصل للقمة في الوطن العربي وأنا بدأت من بلدي الصغيرة. عشان دي مش حاجة أنا مولودة بيها، كان لازم أشتغل جامد أوي عشان أوصلها.

I learned how to play Drums.

Can you tell me briefly about yourself?
We own Nineteen84 management which is a marketing consultancy company. It handles things from social media to PR, Advertising campaigns, events, etc. It is a full-fledged agency, that works with all types of companies from startups to FMCGS.

The idea of Scoop Empire which is an online magazine came right after the revolution, I used to own Cairo zoom and I came to the point where I wanted to do something bigger & better, I realized that there was an issue in the market where everybody was speaking on behalf of Egypt however none of the Egyptians were being heard. I partnered with Karim El Nagdy and Sabrina Khalil to create Scoop Empire.

At the time we reached out to approx. 20 writers who were creative in their fields. Currently we get about 1 million visitors. Then we thought there was a missing gap in the market where no one was talking directly to men. Therefore we created Ragel.com a male digital platform which talks about topics ranging from Cars to Fashion and relationships.

We also launched Nineteen84 productions which a full-fledged production company that does things ranging from online videos to TV ads.

ممكن تحكلنا بإختصار عن نفسك؟
احنا اصحاب 1984 وهي شركة استشارات تسويقية، بناخد بالنا من وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي و العلاقات العامة والحملات الإعلانية. فهي وكالة كاملة، واحنا بنشتغل مع كل أنواع الشركات من الشركات الناشئة للشركات الكبيرة. فكرة "سكووب إمباير"، وهي مجلة على الإنترنت عملناها بعد الثورة، أنا كنت صاحبة "كايرو زوم" . وصلت لنقطة إني كنت عايزة اعمل فيها حاجة أحسن ، لاحظت إن في مشكلة في السوق إن السوق بيكلم نيابةً عن مصر ، بس مفيش حد بيسمع المصريين. فعملنا "سكووب إمباير" انا مع كريم النجدي وصابرينا خليل. وصلنا ل20 كاتب الي كانوا مبدعين في مجالاتهم. حاليا ىبيجلنا مليون زائر. بعدين حسينا إن في فجوة في السوق، مكنش في حد بيخاطب الرجالة. فأنشأنا "راجل دوت كوم" منصة للرجالة بتكلم عن مواضيع تتراوح من العربيات للموضة. أنشأنا برضه "1984 للإنتاج" وهي شركة إنتاج كاملة بتعمل مقاطع الفيديو على الإنترنت وإعلانات تلفزيونية.

What is the key to success in life?
Patience and being headstrong in the sense of really following your passion and dreams. If you don’t love what you're doing then don’t do it!

إيه سر النجاح في الحياة؟
الصبر، وإنك تبقى قوي بمعنى إنك تتابع حلمك وشغفك. لو مبتحبش الي بتعمله، متعملوش.

What are your plans for the future?
I really like what I’m building, obviously I would like to take it Regional. Nineteen84 is already in Dubai.

In the future I would like to ultimately partner with a global agency when it comes to the media platforms. Lastly to create a promise to myself that I will travel each year to somewhere I have never been before so to continue expanding my mind and imagination.

إيه أهدافك في المستقبل؟
أنا بحب أوي الي أنا ببنيه ، أكيد عايزة آخذه على المستوى الإقليمي. 1984 موجودة في دبي. في المستقبل، عايزة أشارك مع وكالة عالمية في الأنظمة الإعلامية. أخيرًا، عايزة أوعد نفسي إني أسافر كل سنة مكان مروحتوش قبل كده عشان أكتسب خبرة واستمتع.

What is the biggest lesson you have learned from life?
When you get knocked down, get back up again. Never get discouraged, as a lot of people give up. A lot of people hit bumps in the road and then they stop, that’s why they never succeed.

إيه أكبر درس اتعلمتيه في حياتك؟
لما تقع، قوم تاني. متخليش نفسك أبدا تحس بالإحباط،عشان ناس كتير بيستسلموا. ناس كتير بيقابلوا في مطبات في الطريق وبيوقفوا، وعشان كده عمرهم مبينجحوا أبدًا.

Was it easy to get to where you are now?
I’ve been doing this for a very long time, since I was 18. I started by doing small events, then developing and working other jobs at different companies so I can learn and get experience. Till I decided to do my own thing, so it wasn’t easy at all.

كانت سهلة ولا لا إنك توصلي للمكان الي إنت فيه دلوقتي؟
أنا كنت بعمل الشغل ده من فترة طويلة أوي، من وانا عندي 18 سنة. كنت بعمل مؤتمرات صغيرة بعديها كنت بطور وبشتغل وظائف تانية في شركات عشان اتعلم. بعديها قررت أعمل شركتي فمكنتش سهلة خالص.

What is the biggest challenge you've faced so far?
Managing people, I am very good at being creative. I just never realized or thought how hard it was to manage other humans ;)

إدارة الناس، أنا كويسة أوي إني أكون مبدعة بس عمري ما تخيلت اد ايه هي صعبة إنك تدير فريق.

How were you able to become an international soccer agent?
I started working in football gradually when I was in high school, I was scouting for big clubs and agencies. They were not all business-related, but they all taught me. So I started establishing relationships to grow bigger, on the other hand my family had a history of football. My great grandfather was the founder of El Ismaily Club and my family was always on the board of the club. My uncle was the director of the Egyptian national team that went to the world cup, and I used to help him alot when I was young. I graduated from MSA University studying Architectural Engineering. I worked for 2 years as a full time Architect/Engineer but in those 2 years I was working on football part-time. In sometime after 2 years of getting involved in a good football projects I thought this is where I belong so I quit engineering and focused on football. Then I did a Graduate Degree in Sports in CIES in Switzerland. Currently the majority of my work focus is in England, Switzerland, France, Portugal, Scandinavia, however we operate in many different markets, recently involved in China. We work with good players and try to do our best for those players getting them the best career possible. I enjoy working with Egyptian players and being successful with Egyptian players because it adds value to the Egyptian game and it increases the value of players.

ازاي عرفت تبقى وكيل كرة قدم عالمي؟
بدأت اشتغل في كرة القدم تدريجيا لما كنت في المدرسة الثانوية، وكنت بكتشف لعيبة للنوادي والوكالات الكبيرة. الشغلانات ماكانش ليهم صلة تجارية بس كلهم علموني. فبدأت إقامة علاقات عشان أكبر، من ناحية أخرى عائلتي كان ليها تاريخ في كرة القدم. جدي الأكبر كان مؤسس نادي الإسماعيلي وكانت عائلتي دائما على مجلس إدارة النادي. كان عمي مدير المنتخب الوطني المصري الي راح كأس العالم، وكنت بساعده كثير لما كنت صغير. انا اتخرجت من جامعة (م.س.ا) ببكالوريوس في الهندسة المعمارية. اشتغلت لمدة سنتين كمهندس بس في السنتين دول كنت بشتغل على كرة القدم بدوام جزئي. بعد سنتين من الشغل في مشاريع كرة قدم جيدة اعتقدت إن هو ده المكان الي بنتمي له فاستقلت من شغلي في الهندسة وركزت على كرة القدم. بعديها عملت ماجستير في الرياضة في سويسرا. حاليا معظم تركيز شغلي في انجلترا وسويسرا وفرنسا والبرتغال والدول الاسكندنافية، بس بنشتغل في العديد من الأسواق المختلفة، اشتغلنا مؤخرا في الصين. واحنا بنشتغل مع لعيبة كويسة وبنحاول نبذل قصارى جهدنا لهؤلاء اللعيبة عشان يحصلوا على أفضل مهنة ممكنة. أنا بستمتع بالشغل مع اللاعبين المصريين وإني أكون ناجح معاهم لأنه يضيف قيمة للعبة المصرية وبيزود من قيمة اللاعبين.

What is the key to success to life?
Doing your best, I believe if there is a will there's a way. And its normal to fail during the path to success.

إيه سر النجاح في الحياة؟
ابذل كل مجهودك، وأنا اعتقد لو في إرادة هيكون في وسيلة. ومن الطبيعي إنك تفشل في طريقك للنجاح.

What is your purpose in life?
I try to be a good person, I try to do my best at anything I do, and I respect myself.

إيه غايتك في الحياة؟
أنا بحاول إني اكون شخص كويس، بحاول أبذل كل مجهودي في أي حاجة بعملها، وبحترم نفسي.

What is the biggest lesson you have learned from life?
Pain in life is inevitable but suffering is a choice.

الألم في الحياة أمر لا مفر منه ولكن المعاناة اختيار.

What is the biggest challenge you've faced so far?
I don't think I have one challenge that I can call the biggest. In the line of football the normal challenge is getting all parties in agreement, and in that case they are 3 parties as in football the property is not a piece of land its a person.

لا أعتقد إن عندي تحدي ممكن أقول عليه الأكبر. في خط كرة القدم التحدي الطبيعي هو إن جميع الأطراف يتفقوا، وفي هذه الحالة هم 3 أطراف عشان الممتلكات في كرة القدم مش قطعة أرض هي شخص.

I used to paint when I was younger.

What makes you the co-founder of Cloudera which is now a multi-billion dollar company?
In 2008 it was very clear to me that data will start exploding in size across the world, and a new scalable/intelligent system will be needed to make what is impossible today, possible tomorrow, using that data. Today we have customers replacing some of the tasks performed by lawyers, doctors and farmers with artificial intelligence using our platform.

إيه الي بيخليك مؤسس شركة كلوديرا؟
في 2008 كان واضح لي إن البيانات هتبدي تنفجر في الحجم في جميع أنحاء العالم، وهيكون في حاجة لنظام جديد ذكي وقابل للتطوير عشان يخلي المستحيل النهاردة، ممكن بكرة، باستخدام البيانات دي. النهاردة عندنا عملاء بيستبدلوا المهام الي بيؤديها المحامين والأطباء بالذكاء الاصطناعي باستخدام المنصة بتاعتنا.

How did it all start?
I graduated with a Master's Degree in Computer Engineering from Cairo University. I came to California in 1995 to get my PhD from Stanford University. In 2000 I started working at Yahoo! after they acquired my first startup. During my time at Yahoo I had a group responsible for data analytics and business intelligence. My team analyzed the data from a number of key yahoo products like: yahoo sports, news, mail, messenger, etc. At Yahoo! the data was growing very quickly, and we were facing problems on how to process all that data in efficient ways, but also how to extract actionable insights from that data. We needed a new type of platform and I was lucky that when I was at yahoo a new platform called Hadoop was being built for Yahoo search. That platform showed a lot of promise in terms of solving all the problems that I had. At that time when I saw the opportunity, I left yahoo and joined a venture capital firm called Accel Partners. I was an entrepreneur in residence, that's where the VC investor asks you to stay with them in their office until you finish thinking of your idea. While I was there I met my co-founders. We all saw the problem that's happening with data systems, and it gave us a hint to the problem future companies will face. So Facebook, Google, Yahoo, and the problems they face with extracting data was simply the future of what every company in the world would have to figure out at some point. Our thesis proved to be true, and now Cloudera has almost 1600 employees worldwide (up from 4 founders 9 years ago). Currently I am the Chief Technology Officer of Cloudera, and just recently we became listed as a public company on the New York Stock Exchange.

إزاي مشوارك بدأ؟
انا اتخرجت بدرجة الماجستير في هندسة الكمبيوتر من جامعة القاهرة. سافرت كاليفورنيا سنة 1995 للحصول على درجة الدكتوراه من جامعة ستانفورد. في سنة 2000 بدأت أشتغل في شركة ياهو! بعد لما اشتروا شركتي. خلال وقتي في ياهو كان عندي مجموعة مسؤولة عن تحليلات البيانات والاستخبارات التجارية. فريقي كان بيحلل البيانات من عدد من منتجات ياهو الرئيسية مثل: ياهو سبورتس، نيوز، ميل، مسنجر،إلخ. البيانات كانت بتنمو بسرعة كبيرة، وكنا بنواجه مشاكل حول كيفية معالجة كل البيانات بطرق فعالة، وأيضا كيفية استخراج رؤى قابلة للتنفيذ من تلك البيانات. كنا بحاجة لنوع جديد من منصة وأنا كنت محظوظ إنه لما كنت في ياهو تم بناء منصة جديدة اسمها هادوب لبحث ياهو. والمنصة دي أظهرت الكثير من الوعود من حيث حل جميع المشاكل الي عندي. في الوقت ده شوفت الفرصة، سبت ياهو! وانضمت إلى شركة رأس مال استثماري اسمها أكسيل بارتنرز. كنت رجل أعمال في الإقامة، وده المكان الي بيطلب منك المستثمر البقاء معهم في مكتبهم لحد ما تنتهي من التفكير في فكرتك. لما كنت هناك التقيت بشركائي. كلنا شفنا المشكلة الي بتحصل مع أنظمة البيانات، وده أعطانا تلميح للمشاكل الي هتقابل الشركات في المستقبل. ففيسبوك، وجوجل، وياهو، والمشاكل الي بيواجهوها مع استخراج البيانات كان المستقبل الي كل شركة في العالم هتضطر تنتبهله في مرحلة ما. تخلينا طلع صح، والآن كلوديرا عندها ما يقرب من 1600 موظف في جميع أنحاء العالم (من 4 مؤسسين من 9 سنين). حاليا أنا كبير موظفي التكنولوجيا في كلوديرا، ومؤخرا أصبحنا مسجلين شركة عامة في بورصة نيويورك.

What is the key to success in life?
To be happy, and content with what you have. Do what makes you happy, be friends with people that make you happy, work on stuff that makes you happy, etc. That's the key to success in life in my humble opinion. On the other hand, success in business is to create a company that has long lasting value, and solves a real problem for the world. That is what most entrepreneurs hope for when they start a company. The ultimate success is to create a company that will live forever (or at least lives longer than you do). It is also ok to create a company that gets acquired by another, but not as fun :)

إيه سر النجاح في الحياة؟
إنك تكون سعيد، وراضي بالي عندك. اعمل الي بيخليك سعيد، صاحب الناس الي بيخلوك سعيد، اشتغل على حاجات بتخليك سعيد، الخ ده هو مفتاح النجاح في الحياة من وجهة نظري المتواضعة. من ناحية تانية، النجاح في الأعمال التجارية هو خلق شركة لديها قيمة طويلة الأمد، وبتحل مشكلة حقيقية للعالم. ده الي كل رجال الأعمال بيأملوه لما يبتدوا شركة. النجاح النهائي هو إنشاء شركة تعيش للأبد (أو على الأقل تعيش حياة أطول منك). عادي برضه إن الواحد ينشىء شركة تتباع لشركة تانية، بس مفيهاش نفس المتعة :)

What are your plans for the future?
To continue to grow Cloudera. We are currently in the scaling phase of the business. Startups typically have 3 phases: the initial "ideation" phase where they figure out what the heck are they going to sell at the first place. The second phase is product-market fit, which is to prove that you can sell your product over and over again in a repeatable way (i.e. the solution you created is applicable to a wide audience). Then you move to the last phase which is to scale your business all around the world. Each phase has its own challenges and risks, great companies know how to survive and excel during each of these phases (then they rinse and repeat with new product introductions).

إيه الحاجات الي عايز تحققها في المستقبل؟
مواصلة نمو كلوديرا. احنا حاليا في مرحلة التحجيم. والشركات الناشئة في العادي بيكون عندها 3 مراحل: مرحلة "التفكير" وهي المرحلة الأولى بتحاول تعرف فيه الشركة ايه هو الي هي عايزة تبيعه في السوق. والمرحلة الثانية هي ملاءمة سوق المنتج، وإثبات إنه ممكن تبيع منتجك بطريقة قابلة للتكرار (فالحل الي انت أنشأته ينطبق على جمهور واسع). بعديها بتنتقل للمرحلة الأخيرة الي هي توسيع نطاق عملك في جميع أنحاء العالم. كل مرحلة ليها تحدياتها الخاصة والمخاطر، الشركات الكبرى بتعرف كيفية البقاء على قيد الحياة والتفوق خلال كل المراحل دي .

What is the biggest lesson you have learned from life?
If something is not making you happy, then don't let it get to your psyche. Learn from it, or get away from it. Don't let unpleasant things get to you, instead look at them as learning opportunities to make you better at what you do. Then move on forward (the past is just that, the past, it is gone, don't lament over it).

إيه اكبر درس اتعلمته في حياتك؟
لو في حاجة مش مخلياك مبسوط، متخليهاش تتحكم فيك. اتعلم منها، أو ابعد. متخليش الحاجات المزعجة تتحكم فيك، بص لهم على إنهم فرص تتعلم منهم عشان تبقى أحسن في الي انت بتعمله. بعديها اتحرك (الماضي هو مجرد الماضي، انتهى، فمتندمش عليه).

What is the biggest challenge you've faced so far?
I think it's the people at the company, and making sure you have the right team and culture. It’s a huge challenge when you are a small company of just a dozen employees, because every single person has a significant impact on the performance of the company. When you have 400+ employees you can afford to make mistakes (hiring wise), but when you're young you can't afford to make such mistakes (and you need to correct for them quickly). So the challenge tends to be around people: how we hire them, how to manage them, how to grow them, putting them in the right position that truly leverages the skills they bring to the table, and how to make corrections when those people aren't the right fit from a task or culture perspective.

إيه أكبر تحدي واجهك في حياتك؟
أعتقد إنه الناس في الشركة، وإنك تتأكد إن عندك الفريق والثقافة الصح. بيبقى تحدي كبير لما تكون شركة صغيرة مكونة من 10 موظفين بس، لأن كل شخص له تأثير كبير على أداء الشركة. لما يكون عندك فوق 400 موظف ممكن تتحمل الأخطاء (توظيف بحكمة)، بس لما تكون صغير متقدرش تتحمل الأخطاء (ومحتاج تصححهم بسرعة). فالتحدي يميل إنه يكون حول الناس: ازاي نقوم بتوظيفهم، وكيفية إدارتهم، وكيفية تنميتهم، ووضعهم في المكان المناسب الي يعزز فيه مهاراتهم، وكيفية إجراء التصحيحات لما يكون الناس دول مش الناس الصح من منظور المهمة أو الثقافة.

Tell us about something no one knows about you?
Even though I am 46 years old now, I still love playing video games :) I like playing first person shooters, e.g. Halo, Call of Duty, Battlefield, and I like strategy games like Starcraft or Dawn of War. Last year I got the Oculus Rift, and I am now starting to really enjoy playing Virtual Reality games, my favourites so far are Robo Recall and Call of the Starseed.

What makes you a Bronze Medalist?
I had this goal, and I have been training 4 years for it. It was a dream that I wanted to come true, so I worked for it so hard, and when I work hard I will get something in return. God will not let me down, and even if I didn’t get the bronze medal maybe I would have got it another year. As hard work pays off at the end, I really believe in that. Maybe it comes late, maybe it comes early, but I’m sure that it pays off.

إيه الي خلاكي تكسبي الميدالية البرونزية في الأولمبياد؟
كان عندي الهدف ده، وكنت بتمرن عليه 4 سنين. كان حلم أنا كنت عايزاه يتحقق، فاشتغلت عليه جامد أوي، ولما أشتغل جامد هاخد حاجة في المقابل. ربنا مش هيخذلني، وحتى لو مكسبتش الميدالية البرونزية، كان ممكن أكسبها في سنة تانية. والشغل بجد بيجيب نتيجة كويسة في الآخر، أنا بعتقد أوي في كده. ممكن النتيجة تيجي في وقت متأخر، وممكن تيجي بدري، بس أنا متأكدة انها هتيجي.

How did your journey start?
It all started when I was 7 years old, I was training Taekwondo at the shooting club with my older brother who I was always looking up to. He was in the national team and I always wanted to go the national team and win championships. So I followed his footsteps and I started training intensively. I didn’t have the Olympic dream, but I was always watching the Olympics. I was watching the Egyptian team in Athens 2004 and I saw my coach win the bronze medal. That made me realize how possible it is. So it started to get serious and I really believed that I can qualify for the Olympics after a few years. I started having that dream in 2010, then by 2011 I qualified for the senior national team. Before that I was training at the club and it was never on my mind that I could qualify for the national team. Then in 2012 I was able to qualify for the London 2012 Olympics, I told myself I want to go there and win a Gold Medal, however I lost my second match to France. Then after that, my dream had to continue for 4 more years, I was aiming for Gold, as I always believed that I have to aim high to achieve high. I ended up winning the Bronze Medal in the Rio 2016 Olympics. And in those 4 years I was training every day non-stop, and that bronze medal was really never easy. When I was at high-school, I had to attend the lessons and then go train, and had to postpone my first year of college as I was traveling and training all year. Currently I am studying Fine Arts in Helwan University, and preparing for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

إزاي مشوارك بدأ؟
مشواري بدأ وانا عندي 7 سنين، كنت بتدرب تايكواندو في نادي الصيد مع أخويا الي كنت دائما ببصلوا كقدوة. هو كان في المنتخب وأنا كان دائما نفسي أدخل المنتخب وأكسب بطولات. فمشيت وراء خطاه وبدأت أتدرب بشكل مكثف. مكنش عندي الحلم الأولمبي، بس كنت دائما بتفرج على الأولمبياد . كنت بتفرج على المنتخب المصري في أثينا 2004 وشوفت مدربي بيكسب الميدالية البرونزية. ده خلاني أدرك أد إيه الموضوع ده ممكن ومش مستحيل. فبدأ الموضوع يبقى جد وأنا فعلا كنت معتقدة إني أقدر اتأهل للأولمبياد بعد كذه سنة. وبدأ الحلم في 2010، بعد كده في 2011 اتأهلت لمنتخب مصر. قبل كده كنت بتدرب في النادي، ومكنش في ذهني إني ممكن في يوم من الأيام اتأهل للمنتخب. بعد كده في 2012 قدرت اتأهل لأولمبياد لندن 2012، قلت لنفسي إني عايزة أروح وأكسب الميدالية الذهبية،بس خسرت في الماتش التاني ضد فرنسا. بعديها حلمي استمر لمدة 4 سنين تانين، وكان هدفي أكس الميدالية الذهبية، وأنا دائما كنت بعتقد إن لازم يبقى عندي هدف كبير عشان أقدر أحقق إنجاز كبير. والحمد لله قدرت أكسب ميدالية برونزية في أولمبياد ريو 2016. وفي ال4 سنين دول كنت بتدرب كل يوم من غير ما أوقف، الميدالية البرونزية مكنتش سهلة خالص. لما كنت في المدرسة، كان لازم احضر المواد وبعد كده اروح على التمرين. واضطرت إني اأجل السنة الأولى من الجامعة عشان كنت بسافر وبتمرن طول السنة. و حاليا انا بدرس فنون جميلة في جامعة حلوان، وبحضر لأولمبياد طوكيو 2020.

What is the key to success to life?
Give your best, your 100% in whatever you do. Do your 100%, then leave the rest to God. You need to work hard, as nothing comes easy. It’s not easy to achieve something, it's not easy maintain your success, it was never easy, you always have to work hard. And have patience at the end, as God will reward you.

إيه سر النجاح في الحياة؟
دائما إدي احسن ما عندك، ادي 100% في أيا كان الي بتعملوا. اعمل ال 100٪، وسيب الباقي على ربنا. محتاج تشتغل بجد عشان مفيش حاجة سهلة. مش سهل إنك تحقق حاجة، مش سهل إنك تحافظ على نجاحك، عمرها ما كانت سهلة، لازم دائما تشتغل بجد. وخلي عندك صبر في الآخر، و ربنا هيكافئك.

What are your plans for the future?
I have the world championship next May 2017. I have never won a medal in the world championship, it is the hardest of all, and every time I went I lost in the quarter final. I want to really win a medal in the world championship. And for the next 4 years I am really aiming for a Gold Medal for the next Olympics in Tokyo 2020.

إيه الأهداف الي عايزة تحققيها في المستقبل؟
عندي بطولة العالم في مايو 2017. أنا عمري ما كسبت ميدالية في بطولة العالم، هي صعبة جدا، وفي كل مرة روحت، خسرت في ربع النهائي. أنا نفسي أكسب ميدالية في بطولة العالم. وخلال ال4 سنين الجايين، أنا بهدف إني فعلا أكسب ميدالية ذهبية في أولومبياد طوكيو 2020.

What is the biggest lesson you have learned from life?
Everything might seem as it is, but life was never like that. There is success, failures, and experiences. Life is like that, it's never easy and everything moves on. Life is hard, but you have to continue moving forward.

إيه أكبر درس اتعلمتيه في حياتك؟
كل حاجة ممكن تبدو زي ما هي، بس الحياة عمرها ما كانت كده. في نجاح، فشل، وتجارب. الحياة كده، عمرها ما كانت سهلة وكل حاجة بتعدي. الحياة صعبة، بس لازم تفضل تتحرك.

What is the biggest challenge you've faced so far?
2 years before the Rio Olympics I broke my foot, and I felt I wasn’t going to compete. Then after I removed the cast, I had to walk on my foot, then try to run on it, and then I had to kick with it. As in Taekwondo you have to kick with your front-leg and that is where my foot was broken, so it was very hard to recover as I was afraid to do anything with my foot. But then thankfully I was able to make a full recovery after, and then I won a bronze medal at the Rio Olympics.

إيه أكبر تحدي واجهك في حياتك؟
قبل أولمبياد ريو 2016 بسنتين كسرت رجلي، وحسيت إني مش هقدر أكمل. بعد لما شلت الجبس، كان لازم أتحرك على رجلي، بعدها لازم أحاول أجري، وبعديها أحاول أعمل ركلات بيها. ففي التايكواندو لازم تعمل ركلات بوش رجلك، ودي كانت الحتة المكسورة في رجلي. فكانت صعبة أوي إني أتعافى عشان أنا كنت خايفة أعمل أي حاجة برجلي. بس بعد كده الحمد لله قدرت أخف تماما، وبعديها كسبت الميدالية البرونزية في أولمبياد ريو.

Tell us about a moment that changed your life?
It was the golden point in the Rio Olympics. I was competing for the 3rd place in that match. It was very time-restraining as whoever won that point would win the match. My coach kept telling me ‘You have to believe in yourself’, and he kept yelling ‘Believe in yourself’. In the Golden point there's a 50/50 chance, either you get it or lose it. There is no option I have to believe that I can do it. So I was really focused on the match, then when my opponent made a mistake I took the chance and I won. It is amazing how it happened in a split second, it all goes back to God, he made me win. When it happened, I wanted to cry, but I said I won’t cry now, I need to go get that medal. But I said if I lost or won, in both cases I will cry. So I said I will cry now, from inside I wanted it so much. At that moment I did the cartwheel, as I told my friends if I I win the gold medal I will do a cartwheel. I won the bronze, but I said why not, I don’t win a Olympic medal everyday. I don’t care, I’m happy and I just wanted to live that moment. Then I went and ran to my family, and I hugged them all and they were all crying and shouting ‘Finally’. Winning that medal really changed my life, and whatever I say I really can’t be put it into words.

احكلنا عن لحظة غيرت حياتك؟
كانت النقطة الذهبية في أولمبياد ريو. كنت بتتنافس على المركز الثالث في الماتش ده. كان الوقت حرج جدا، الي كان هيكسب النقطة دي هيكسب الماتش. مدربي فضل يقول لي "لازم تؤمني بنفسك"، وفضل يقولي في بصوت عالي "آمني بنفسك". في النقطة الذهبية دي كان في فرصة 50/50، يا إما هكسب يا إما هخسر. مفيش خيار، لازم أصدق إني أقدر اكسب. فكنت مركزة أوي في الماتش، وأول ما خصمي غلطت، أخذت الفرصة وكسبت. والموضوع ده حصل في أقل من ثانية، كل الفضل يرجع لربنا، هو الي خلاني أكسب. لما الحدث ده حصل، كنت عايزة اعيط، بس قولت مش هعيط دلوقتي عشان لازم أروح أخد الميدالية. بس قولت لنفسي كده كده لو منت كسبت أو خسرت كنت هعيط. فقلت هعيط دلوقتي، وأنا من جوه كنت عايزة أوي. في اللحظة دي اتشقلبت، كنت اتفقت مع أصحابي إني لو كسبت الميدالية الذهبية هتشقلب. أنا كسبت الميدالية البرونزية، بس قلت لنفسي ليه لا، أنا مش بكسب ميدالية أولمبية كل يوم. مش فارقة معايا، أنا مبسوطة وعايزة اعيش اللحظة. بعدها جريت وروحت لعيلتي وحضنتهم كلهم،و كانوا بيقولولي بصوت عالي 'أخيرا!' بكل الفرحة الي في الدنيا. الفوز بالميدالية دي غير لي حياتي، ومهما قلت مش هقدر أعبر بكلام.
