The Berlin International Film Festival has announced the cohort for Berlinale Talents 2026, selecting five Egyptian filmmakers to take part in one of the world’s most influential talent development programs for emerging cinema professionals.

This year’s edition brings together 200 filmmakers from 120 countries, chosen from a highly competitive pool of 3,438 applicants. Taking place from February 13 to 18, Berlinale Talents will host an intensive week of workshops, talks, and collaborative labs spanning 15 disciplines across the cinematic field.

Centered around the 2026 theme, “Creating (and) Confusion — Cinema, Chaos and the Power of Discomfort,” the program encourages participants to explore uncertainty, disruption, and creative risk as driving forces in contemporary filmmaking. Beyond the program itself, Berlinale Talents connects its participants to a global network of more than 10,000 alumni and offers direct access to the wider industry ecosystem through Berlinale Pro.

Egyptian athlete and mountaineer Manal Rostom has made history after successfully summiting Mount Vinson, the highest mountain in Antarctica, standing at 4,892 meters above sea level. Reaching the peak on January 6, 2026, Rostom becomes the first Egyptian woman to conquer the continent’s highest summit, facing some of the most extreme conditions on Earth along the way.

Temperatures during the climb ranged between minus 20 and minus 30 degrees Celsius, with the physical challenge intensified by the need to carry full gear over multiple days in freezing weather. The summit day alone lasted nearly 15 hours, as Rostom battled altitude, exhaustion, and severe cold in what she described as a more demanding push than Everest.
