We are pleased to announce that submissions are now open for Workshop #8: Single Location Film.
This is an interactive, hands-on, and motivational writing workshop designed to help participants achieve tangible outcomes through a series of practical exercises. These exercises integrate various forms of visual arts and offer a practical understanding of cinematic elements such as space, props, character props, set design, lighting, composition, costumes, sound design, and music. The workshop aims to inspire new film ideas and encourage participants to view their creative work from a fresh perspective.
Workshop Overview:
Participants will develop their film ideas (set in a single location) into executable projects, whether they are beginners or experienced filmmakers.
Analysis of selected films and experiences within the same context.
Engagement in a variety of writing exercises and creative experiments.
Character description, analysis, and dossier writing.
Film découpage development.
Practical ex*****on and filming of selected exercises.
Duration:
Two weeks – 7 days total (3 days per week)
Fee:
7,500 EGP
We are proud that many films developed through previous workshops have been completed and have participated in and won awards at numerous film festivals.
Application Requirements:
Submit a logline or a short synopsis for a short film set in a single location.
Submit your CV along with your contact details.

About Yasser Shafiey – Workshop Director:
Yasser Shafiey is an Egyptian filmmaker and a graduate of the Faculty of Applied Arts. He studied cinema at the Higher Institute of Cinema in Cairo and the Jesuit Film School. He has worked as an assistant director on several feature films.
He has written, produced, and directed several short films that have participated in major international film festivals and received multiple awards. His short film “Helm El Mashhad” (Dream of a Scene) won a Special Jury Award for Screenplay at the African Film Festival in Milan, Italy (2015), and is taught in some Italian schools.
Prize and Award CINIT CEM – Mondialità, The 25th Edition of the Festival of African, Asian and Latin American Cinema, Italy – 2015
In 2016, his feature film project “Starting Date” received a development grant from Beirut Film Station, as well as a development grant from the Luxor African Film Festival, including mentorship with the French organization Initiative Film.
His short film “Every Day at 6 AM” received a development grant from the Malmö Arab Film Festival in 2018.
Alongside his filmmaking career, he worked with New Century Films as a script reader until 2020.
Between 2018–2019, his short film “Intense Practice to Improve Performance” received multiple awards and festival selections.
His short film “The Man Who Swallowed the Radio” was screened at several festivals, including the Cairo International Film Festival (2020).
His first feature film “Complaint No. 713317” participated in numerous international film festivals and won Best Screenplay Award at the Cairo International Film Festival (Arab Cinema Horizons Competition, 2025). It was also screened at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2026.

ورشة صناعة الأفلام في لوكيشن واحد. Single Location Film��هي ورشة تفاعلية عملية وتحفيزية للكتابة للخروج بنتائج ملموسة للمشتركين بها.
بتنفيذ تمارين مختلفة مدمجة بأنواع مختلفة من الفنون البصرية.
ومن خلالها يتم التعرف بشكل عملي على عناصر المكان، اكسسوار المكان، اكسسوار الشخصيات،الديكور، الاضاءة، التكوين، الملابس، شريط الصوت، والموسيقى. �تجعلك تستلهم أفكار أفلام جديدة، والمظر الى عملك الفني بشكل مختلف.
ورشة صناعة الفيلم في لوكيشن واحد. Single location film.
- يتم من خلال الورشة العمل على تطوير أفكار الأفلام المقترحة من المشتركين بشكل عملي لتكون قيد التنفيذ. سواء مع صناع أفلام مبتدئين أو أصحاب تجارب .
- العمل على تحليل بعض التجارب و الأفلام في نفس السياق.
- المرور بالعديد من التمارين و التجارب الكتابية المختلفة.
- “وصف الشخصيات و تحليلها و كتابة ملف عنها.”
- عمل ديكوباج الفيلم.
- تنفيذ وتصوير بعض التمارين عمليا.
مدة الورشة أسبوعين- “ 7” أيام - “ثلاثة أيام في الأسبوع”
سعر الورشة 7500 جنيه.
