✨ *A New Academic Year Begins!* ✨

As we prepare to welcome students back next week, I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible energy, dedication, and heart that every teacher, staff member, and school leader brings to our learning community.

The start of a new year is more than just fresh timetables and new faces—it's a chance to reignite our purpose, reimagine possibilities, and recommit to the transformative power of education.

To my fellow educators:

📚 May your classrooms be filled with curiosity and courage.

💬 May your conversations spark growth and connection.

🌱 And may your impact reach far beyond the syllabus.

Let’s lead with empathy, teach with passion, and support one another with unwavering belief in what we do.

Here’s to a year of meaningful learning, bold ideas, and shared success.

The International Baccalaureate(IB) learner profile describes a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success.

They imply a commitment to help all members of the school community learn to respect themselves, others and the world around them.

Each of the IB's programmes is committed to the development of students according to the IB learner profile.

The profile aims to develop learners who are:

Inquirers
Knowledgeable
Thinkers
Communicators
Principled
Open-minded
Caring
Risk-takers
Balanced
Reflective.

Career-related Programme

The International Baccalaureate(IB) Career-related Programme (CP) is designed for students aged 16-19.

What is the CP?

The CP is a framework of international education that incorporates the values of the IB into a unique programme addressing the needs of students engaged in career-related education.

The programme leads to further/higher education, apprenticeships or employment.

What the CP offers students

The CP provides a comprehensive educational framework that combines highly regarded and internationally recognized courses, from the IB Diploma Programme (DP), with a unique CP core and an approved career-related study.

The CP develops students to be:

Academically strong
Skilled in a practical field
Critical and ethical thinkers
Self-directed
Collaborative
Resilient and determined
Confident and assured
Caring and reflective
Inquirers

The CP helps students to prepare for effective participation in life, fostering attitudes and habits of mind that allow them to become lifelong learners and to get involved in learning that develops their capacity and will to make a positive difference.

The programme aids schools’ retention of students, promotes development of skills, and encourages students to take responsibility for their own actions, encouraging high levels of self-esteem through meaningful achievements.

A key feature of the CP is that it provides flexibility to allow for local differences. Each school creates its own distinctive version of the CP to meet the needs, backgrounds and contexts of its students.

The CP curriculum

CP students undertake a minimum of two IB Diploma Programme (DP) courses, a core consisting of four components and a career-related study.

For CP students, DP courses provide the theoretical underpinning and academic rigour of the programme; the career-related study further supports the programme’s academic strength and provides practical, real-world approaches to learning; and the CP core helps them to develop skills and competencies required for lifelong learning.

Diploma Programme

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) is for students aged 16-19.

What is the DP?

Research suggests that there are many benefits to choosing the Diploma Programme (DP). The programme aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge—students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.

The DP curriculum

The Diploma Programme (DP) curriculum is made up of six subject groups and the DP core, comprising theory of knowledge (TOK), creativity, activity, service (CAS) and the extended essay.

Through the Diploma Programme (DP) core, students reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research and undertake a project that often involves community service.

What the DP offers students

Through the DP, schools are able to develop students who:

*have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge
*flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically
*study at least two languages
*excel in traditional academic subjects
*explore the nature of knowledge through the programme’s unique

Why offer the DP?

International research shows that there are many benefits to choosing the DP over other 16-19 curriculums. For example:

*DP students enrol, persist and graduate at higher rates than the national average in a study about postsecondary outcomes of DP graduates in the United States.

*IB students studying at higher education institutions in the United Kingdom have greater odds of achieving positive higher education outcomes than their A-level peers, according to a study comparing student performance

*On average, DP alumni reported higher capacities for a variety of 21st-century skills compared to their non-DP counterparts according to a study in Asia-Pacific.

DP subjects

The curriculum is made up of the DP core and six subject groups. Made up of the three required components, the DP core aims to broaden students’ educational experience and challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills.

Middle Years Programme

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) is for students aged 11-16.

What is the MYP?

The MYP is a challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world.

The MYP is a five-year programme, which can be implemented in a partnership between schools, or in several abbreviated (two, three or four year) formats. Students who complete the MYP are well-prepared to undertake the IB Diploma Programme (DP) or Career-related Programme (CP).

It encourages students aged 11 to 16 to make practical connections between their studies and the real world, preparing them for success in further study and in life.

What the MYP offers students

The MYP aims to develop active learners and internationally minded young people who can empathize with others and pursue lives of purpose and meaning.

The programme empowers students to inquire into a wide range of issues and ideas of significance locally, nationally and globally. The result is young people who are creative, critical and reflective thinkers.

Why offer the MYP?

Research shows that students participating in the MYP:

* build confidence in managing their own learning

*learn by doing, connecting the classroom to the larger world

*outperform non-IB students in critical academic skills

*consistently have greater success in IB Diploma Programme examinations

*thrive in positive school cultures where they are engaged and motivated to excel

*develop an understanding of global challenges and a commitment to act as responsible citizens.

The MYP was revised in September 2014 to provide a more rigorous and highly flexible framework that powerfully integrates with local educational requirements. New industry-leading onscreen examinations and ePortfolios offer exciting opportunities for reliable, robust digital assessment of student achievement.

The MYP curriculum

The MYP curriculum framework comprises eight subject groups, providing a broad and balanced education for early adolescents.

The MYP requires at least 50 hours of teaching time for each subject group, in each year of the programme. In the final two years of the programme, carefully-defined subject group flexibility allows students to meet local requirements and personal learning goals.

Middle Years Programme (MYP) curriculum comprises eight subject groups.

*Language acquisition.
*Language and literature.
*Individuals and societies.
*Sciences.
*Mathematics.
*Arts.
*Physical and health education.
*Design.

Primary Years Programme

The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) for children aged 3 - 12 nurtures and develops young students as caring, active participants in a lifelong journey of learning.

The PYP offers an inquiry-based, transdisciplinary curriculum framework that builds conceptual understanding. It is a student-centered approach to education for children aged 3-12. It reflects the best of educational research, thought leadership and experience derived from IB World Schools.

The PYP has evolved to become a world leader in future-focused education. The PYP is an example of best educational practice globally, responding to the challenges and opportunities facing young students in our rapidly changing world.

The PYP curriculum framework

The PYP curriculum framework begins with the premise that students are agents of their own learning and partners in the learning process. It prioritizes people and their relationships to build a strong learning community.

PYP students use their initiative to take responsibility and ownership of their learning.
By learning through inquiry and reflecting on their own learning, PYP students develop knowledge, conceptual understandings, skills and the attributes of the IB Learner profile to make a difference in their own lives, their communities, and beyond.

The framework emphasizes the central principle of agency, which underpins the three pillars of school life:

the learner
learning and teaching
the learning community.

Embedded in the framework is the recognition of the importance of fostering an individual's self-efficacy. Students with a strong sense of self-efficacy are active in their own learning and take action in their learning community.

Why offer the PYP?

The PYP focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in school and in the world beyond. The PYP offers a transformative experience for students, teachers and whole school communities and delivers excellent outcomes by providing an education that is engaging, relevant, challenging and significant.

PYP learners know how to take ownership of their learning, collaborating with teachers to deepen understanding and increase their confidence and self-motivation. Through actively engaging in integrated ongoing assessment they become effective, self-regulated learners who can act on constructive feedback.

Guided by six transdisciplinary themes of global significance, students broaden their learning by developing their conceptual understandings, strengthening their knowledge and skills across, between and beyond subject areas.
