Helen and I went to the Greenwich Picture House last night to watch Becoming Led Zeppelin and I thought, I’ll have a chilled night and leave my phone at home.
Something I’m trying to do more often.!
I get home to find out the sad news of the passing of Rick Buckler.
Any one my generation will appreciate the affect the Jam had on our youth.
I first saw them at the Marquee in 1977 and it was a life changing moment.
The first time I actually met Rick was on the back of a lorry at a CND rally on the bank of the River Thames. Then in Edinburgh, when we had a night off and the Jam were in town. Terry Rawlings and I went to what was supposed to be the last Jam gig on December 9th 1982 at the Guildford Civic Hall.
Then numerous times I met him, at From the Jam gigs and the most recent at the Mods May Day last May, I always found him to be a real Gentleman and lovely to talk to. In May 2024 he looked well and was in good spirits, so it’s a shock to see another musician has left us.
I’d like to send our condolences to his family and friends from everyone in the Nine Below Zero camp.
