AWARDED FOR THE RENOVATION OF THE ICE FACTORY BUILDING, THE ANNEX BUILDING, AND THE ADAPTATION TO THE ENVIRONMENT OF THE SALT ERAS AND THE SEA AND SALT MUSEUM
The works have been awarded to the joint venture ORTHEM-ABALA TORREVIEJA, for a total of €6,458,852.99 (VAT included),
with an expected completion period of 18 months.
The project proposes a comprehensive renovation of the complex, with the
conservation of the original structural elements of the main building.

The Local Government Board of Torrevieja City Council, in an extraordinary and urgent session, today approved the award of the renovation works for the Ice Factory building, the annex building, and the adaptation to the surroundings of the Salt Eras and the Sea and Salt Museum to the company UTE ORTHEM-ABALA TORREVIEJA, for an amount of €6,458,852.99 (VAT included), with an expected ex*****on period of 18 months. This company obtained the highest technical and economic score in the bidding process.
This project, included in the investment program planned for 2025, will be executed through the Generalitat Valenciana Framework Agreement for building works, through advance expenditure processing. Construction work on this important municipal infrastructure is expected to begin in the coming weeks. It involves a comprehensive renovation of the complex, preserving the original structural elements of the main building and adapting it to serve as cultural, exhibition, and tourism management spaces, in addition to other ancillary work in the immediate surroundings.
The project is based on the renovation of the Ice Factory, which will refurbish two floors of the building, preserving the shape of the roof and the existing skylight.
A new annex building will be built, consisting of a ground floor plus three floors, which will be connected to the previous building by a central corridor between the two. A viewing platform will be installed, overlooking the integration of the Sea and Salt Museum into the urban layout with the panoramic view of the Torrevieja Bay. The Ice Factory is located on a 299 m2 plot with a 303 m2 annex, for a total built area of 2,436 m2.
THE ICE FACTORY WILL HOUSE THE NEW TOURIST OFFICE AND OTHER MUNICIPAL FACILITIES
In terms of use, the new building will be highly functional, comprising two distinct spaces. On the one hand, the Ice Factory will house the city's Tourist Office, completely renovated and modernized in both space and technology, and will share space with the reception area for the Sea and Salt Museum.
The annex building will house the offices of the Department of Tourism and the Center for Innovation and Tourism Management, representing a clear commitment to the modernization, digitalization, and research of our tourism model. It will also house other municipal administrative offices, such as those managing the new museum, as well as the International Residents Assistance Office (OARI), the Migrant Assistance Office (PANGEA), and other municipal offices currently scattered to optimize citizen service.
€2 MILLION GRANT FROM THE VALENCIAN GENERALITAT
Finally, it is worth noting that the Valencian Generalitat's budget for 2025 has allocated €100,000 to begin the restoration and expansion of the Ice Factory, which will increase in value as the various phases of construction progress until the €2 million budget is reached, planned for 2026 and 2027.
