The collapse of the Almería Immigration Office reaches Congress -
The Popular Parliamentary Group in Congress has presented a Non-Law Proposal to provide more human and material resources to the offices for immigration procedures, which in provinces like Almería are suffering a real collapse. This proposal arises in response to the situation in cities with a large number of foreigners such as Barcelona, Madrid, Alicante, Málaga and Almería.
In recent months, UGT, CCOO and the Ombudsman have issued reports and complaints warning of the collapse situation in which the immigration offices of many cities in our country find themselves. Delays especially affect asylum seekers. Another problem that is focused on is the fraudulent business that some people are doing who are dedicated to hoarding all the appointment requests and then selling them and making a profit of hundreds of euros.
The lack of personnel is the determining factor that causes such collapses according to the PP. The workers of these offices themselves are the ones who are denouncing the worsening of their working conditions in which immigration officials carry out their daily work with a structural deficit of human resources, high work overload and low remuneration, the popular ones abound in their NLP .
Given the "massive and worrying migratory pressure" that is occurring on the coasts of the Canary Islands and the also unsustainable situation in the asylum rooms at the Madrid-Barajas airport due to the overcrowding of hundreds of immigrants who cannot process their applications for international protection normally, the Popular Parliamentary Group urges the Government to:
Provide the necessary human, material and technical resources to the offices for immigration procedures that are currently in a situation of collapse, especially those located in the cities of Madrid, Barcelona, Girona, Valencia, Murcia, Seville, Alicante, Malaga, Almería and Palma de Mallorca.
Cover all vacant positions in the staff in the offices where applicable.
Strengthen the staff of officials of the General State Administration assigned to the Spanish immigration offices.
Increase the number of National Police agents assigned to control the asylum rooms at the Adolfo Suárez-Madrid airport, Barajas so that they can carry out their work effectively.
Undertake the necessary actions to reverse the unhealthy situation and terrible conditions in which the facilities of some asylum rooms in Spain are found.
