Welcome to Kairouan 🇹🇳
-
Often considered the 4th holiest city in Islam, this historic city has shaped Islamic faith and culture across North Africa for over 1,000 years. Between its incredible mosques, beautiful architecture, and peaceful streets, Kairouan ended up being one of my favorite stops in Tunisia 🫶🏽

All of the main sites can be accessed with the combo ticket, which can be purchased at any of the monuments or at the city’s tourism office. I paid 12 TND during my visit, but the price has since increased to around 20 TND for everything 🎟️

To get here, your best option is to take a louage, either from Tunis or Sousse depending on where you’re staying. From Tunis, head to the Moncef Bey station and purchase a direct ticket for roughly 15 dinars. From Sousse, head to the main louage station and you’ll pay roughly 6 dinars for a one-way trip. My next video will give you more details on how these louages work, so stay tuned!

One of Tunisia’s many hidden gems 🇹🇳

In the heart of Kairouan, what is often considered the 4th holiest city in Islam, lies a place that many people often overlook.

This is Dar El Bey, otherwise known as the Governor’s House, a former state residence that now functions as a tapestry shop.

While its exterior may not be anything special, its interior is a vivid example of the beautiful architecture Tunisia is widely regarded for, a place you simply cannot miss if you’re ever in Kairouan 🇹🇳

Welcome to El Jem 🇹🇳

Home to the largest amphitheater in all of Africa, and among the largest ever built by the Roman empire 🏛️

What truly surprised me about this place was how few people there were! Definitely made the experience 10x better 🫶🏽

Would you visit?
