🇬🇧 Here’s our personal rating of local islands in the Maldives after visiting all of them 🩵:
• Maafushi (9/10) – Best variety of excursions, wide range of hotels and restaurants, good marine life.
• Dhigurah (10/10) – Stunning long beach, incredible sandbank, close to whale shark and manta spots.
• Dhiffushi (7/10) – Well-developed but not overcrowded, good excursion options, shallow and beautiful beach.
• Thoddoo (9/10) – Spectacular lagoon, turtles close to shore, great value water sports, very local vibe.
• Rasdhoo (8/10) – Amazing for diving, hammerhead shark spots, beautiful snorkeling (especially near Kuramathi reef).
• Fulidhoo (6.5/10) – Rays and sharks near shore, pretty bikini beach, limited restaurants and some waste issues.
• Ukulhas (7.5/10) – Great marine life from the beach (we saw mantas), good for diving, still developing.
• Gulhi (8.5/10) – Small and charming, beautiful bikini beach, perfect for a short stay.
• Thulusdhoo (8.5/10) – Known for surfing, nice beach and sandbank, more authentic local feel.
• Dhangethi (6/10) – Very local and quiet, limited food and accommodation options.
The Maldives isn’t just about luxury resorts — each local island offers a completely different experience depending on what kind of trip you’re looking for.
