Children don’t always tell us directly how they experience us.
But sometimes they reveal it in unexpected ways.
These questions aren’t a test.
They’re simply an invitation to see the relationship through your child’s eyes.
1️⃣ “When you’re upset, who do you want to be with?”
There’s no right answer.
But their response can tell you where they feel safest.
2️⃣ “If you could change one thing about me, what would it be?”
Children often answer with surprising honesty.
Sometimes it’s about rules.
Sometimes it’s about attention.
Sometimes it’s something parents never realized.
3️⃣ “When do you think I’m happiest?”
This shows what your child notices about you, and what they believe matters most in your life.
4️⃣ “What do you think makes me proud of you?”
Their answer may reveal whether they feel loved for who they are, or mainly for what they do.
5️⃣ “If you could tell me one thing without me getting upset, what would it be?”
Sometimes this question opens conversations children have wanted to have for a long time.
6️⃣ “What’s your favorite moment we’ve had together recently?”
Children often remember moments parents almost forgot.
7️⃣ “What do you wish we did more often?”
The answer isn’t always about doing more.
Sometimes it’s about feeling more connected.
Children don’t see parents the way parents see themselves.
Sometimes one honest conversation can show us the relationship through entirely different eyes.
