💶Money Exchange…
Where to go… & NOT go!

Regulars & locals know the pitfalls of changing money at the wrong place; anywhere displaying promises of ‘No Commission’ should be avoided as they usually have a much smaller disclaimer sign declaring ‘no commission on transactions over £2000’.

The best place to change money is in the indoor market; there are several kiosks displaying the day’s rate & what you see on the board is EXACTLY what you get.

‘The Indoor’ is a magnet not only for money exchange but also for phone fixes, hair & beauty, personalized gifts, coffee & cake… & my personal reason for a weekly visit is to the BEST butcher in Benidorm!

(Plus it’s air conditioned! 🥵)

Find the Indoor Market next to the Hotel Ocas, behind the Silver Dollar Pub, open daily 9am - 4pm except Sunday.

🤔Which month is best? ☀️☔️🔥
ANY & every month is great in Benidorm - it’s the resort that never sleeps & open all year round.

However, if you’re wondering when it’s best to visit Benidorm from a weather point of view; June is a FANTASTIC month; HOT, but you can still sleep… BUSY but not manic…the same goes for September & October too.

And just for the record, if you’re struggling to choose between July & August, historically July is nicer than August; by August the air is thick & hazy… and desperate for rainfall, and the afternoons are often cloudy.
Of course there will be exceptions to this ‘rule’, this is just what I’ve noticed in my 42 years living here!

Benidorm the sports capital! ⚽️🥳
FAB atmosphere in Benidorm for the footie on Saturday evening with every single terrace with a big screen absolutely packed!

And this is a taste of things of things to come for the next 6 weeks as the crowds will start arriving soon to enjoy the World Cup.

Benidorm is a magnet for sporting events - we’ve over 300 massive screens across the resort… meaning you can tan while you watch the match & sup a pint from as little as 2€!

Just one more reason why Benidorm keeps on growing folks!

🧀Tapas on a budget …🥘
If you think ‘tapas alley’ has gone a bit expensive here’s a tasty alternative that costs way less.

It’s not new - in fact I’ve seen plenty others post this amazing offer - but it is a little hidden so I’m going to explain where it is (and the best time to go).

It’s known as ‘Tapas square’ and it’s just up from the big ‘Ale Hop’ store on Avenida Ruzafa in the Old Town.

Some of you may remember a giant paella sign that hung over the pavement? Well that’s the entrance to tapas square - except don’t be seeking the paella pan - it’s now an Asian restaurant so it’s their sign you’ll see these days… 😞

Enter the square & you’ll find lots of low cost bars offering tapas & other tasty meal deals.

Zodiac is the most well known- you get 6 tapas plus a bottle of cava or wine for 9 euros - but my fave is the one almost in the corner just beyond Zodiac; here you can have a drink plus a tapa for 2.10€ or again, you choose 6 tapas plus a bottle of wine or cava and the price is 11 euros - a bit more than zodiac but the tapas better in my opinion.

But make no mistake they’re both nice & excellent value.

Moving round the square there are other bars too… places where in the old fashioned way you simply get a free tapa of your choice with your drink.

It’s a great way to try tapas at an affordable price.

And before anyone says “those arn’t tapas” yes they are; a ‘tapa’ is simply a small bite to eat… in any format.

And finally; what time to visit?
Well let’s just say this area is extremely popular with the locals around Spanish supper time from 8pm; so you really need to get there
earlier to get a table; I passed by at 7pm yesterday & it was already pretty busy!

A Benidorm GEM since 1974 🥰
The no nonsense Robin Hood! 💪🏻

Popped into this firm fave recently; It’s been a part of Benidorm since 1974 & landlord Phil together with sister Barbara have been there since the start.

Featured on TV on ‘Bargain Loving Brits’ a few years ago, we’ve known the family for decades as we live in the same village & it’s our ‘go to’ for a beer when we’re in the area - my husband Paco loves putting the world to rights with Phil & I love the simple authenticity of this tiny original Benidorm Pub… not many left now.

Serving proper pub grub & fair priced ale, I especially LOVE the no nonsense signs - Phil takes no prisoners!

The Robin Hood is at the end of the Avenida Mediterraneo (the road with the suspended lighting) just before the bridge on the very edge of the Old Town.

Put it on your ‘to do’ list … in a fast changing Benidorm, I’m not sure how long it’ll be here & it’s an absolute Benidorm GEM!

😎No jacket required! ☀️🥳
Lovely couple of days away with the fam in Valencia… a beautiful city, with amazing architecture & only an hour up the coast - although for us this time it was all about good food & footie as Valencia were playing Barcelona (and we won 3-1🥳)

But back at ‘the ranch’ in Benidorm; the sun is BLAZING (although you’ve had your fair share of sunshine in the UK I believe!) & we’ve sunshine all the way with temperatures rising… so if you’re on your way, pack for HOT & HOTTER… definitely no jacket required!

🌇Benidorm’s NEW rooftop is MAGNIFICENT!
I went to the new Terrasse rooftop bar last night & oh my goodness it is amazing!

The decor, the staff, the music in fact the whole vibe is MAGICAL… & the views across the Levante bay & beyond are breathtaking!

I have to say it restored my faith in this side of town & anyone seeking to shun the strip for nicer places should put it on your ‘go to’ list!

Open every evening, everyone is welcome - even children which is nice- providing you buy a drink; wine costs 4.50€ a glass & cocktails from 10€ which I don’t think is overpriced for such an amazing venue.

‼️Top tip; it’s a lovely place with an elegant vibe - not appropriate for folk in fancy dress on stag & hen do’s… you’ll feel out of place trust me.

Find La Terrasse on the 19th floor of the Port Hotel at the start of the Levante beach.

I hope you love it as much as I did 🤗

15kg of He**in seized in Benidorm
SERIOUS post today; a routine police traffic control yesterday resulted in the detention of three men in possession of 15kg of he**in in a suitcase.

The men aged between 54 and 62 were travelling in a taxi and attracted the officers attention at a routine traffic control point in the ‘English zone’ (around the strip) as they looked like they were trying to hide something.

Realising they were about to get busted, one fled the car and tried to escape on foot but was quickly caught.

Aside from 15kg of he**in the trio also had 8 top of the range mobile phones and a large quantity of cash in various currencies.

The men have been sent to prison accused of drug trafficking and are awaiting trial.

GREAT police work… but so sad to think this happened in Benidorm … take care folks 😞

“I never want to go anywhere else!”
I know you like to see other hotels in the area so I thought I’d share this beauty I recommended to my friend just north of Benidorm.

They were seeking peace & tranquility & the 5 star Villa Gadea on the outskirts of Altea certainly delivered; when I caught up with Ness this morning, my school friend of over 40 years was blown away
declaring“I’ve been to many places in the world but now I don’t want to go anywhere else…”

Indeed the setting is idyllic just a few metres from the shoreline with views of Albir & Benidorm in the distance…

Incredibly popular with the Spanish tourists in summer, right now it was very quiet (& surprisingly cheaper than many Benidorm hotels), so if you’re looking for a change of pace next holiday, the Villa Gadea in Altea might be what you’re looking for; it never fails to impress - can’t promise the weather will be quite as nice as today though! ☀️

Thanks for a lovely morning reliving our youth Nessie, next time I want to see your lovely mum Janette Hall in the photos 🥰
