i’ve been selected as one of this year’s POWER UP Year 6 Industry Professionals through

i’ve spent the last few years building KIN-TU between radio shows, releases, parties, A&R and whatever else needed doing. Most of this has been learned on the go, with a few mistakes here and there and a lot of help from people who believed in it.

POWER UP supports Black music creators and industry professionals across the UK. being invited into this network feels like an opportunity to pause, look properly at what I’ve built and put stronger foundations going forwards

thank you to , POWER UP , Ben Wynter , Yaw Owusu , Joe Frankland and all the programme partners for putting their trust in me.

and thank you to every artist, collaborator, venue parents, friend and dancer who has helped KIN-TU exist so far.

have you heard of South African bubblegum music?  this friday I’ll be I’m exploring its history from 6-8 as part of

i’ve been slowly putting this together over the past few months. A listening session, a live audio essay and an open conversation, tracing the story of South African bubblegum music and the records that became part of everyday life under apartheid

through music, video and research, I’ll explore a genre built around synths, drum machines and the dancefloors of shebeens, while thinking about the ways it carried joy, hope and resistance

yesterdays Radio Buena Vida show is now up.

I was chatting to someone the other day and realised I’ve been doing this show since 2021, right from the very beginning of RBV, which is pretty wild and very sweet to think about.
 feeling grateful to still have two hours to move through records properly, with no rush and no real need to land anywhere too quickly. two hours to experiment and play tracks far removed from what I play out, but still consume on the daily.
 this one started with uncle Brian Eno, drifted into Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong, and somehow found its way to Delta 5 - Mind Your Own Business, which I heard the wizard Marcellus Pittman play out last weekend.
 thank you RBV for holding space for me all these years, and thanks to whoever listened live and continues to do so, listens back, or just let it play in the background while doing life bits.
