UNITED LEFT- GREEN´S FORTUNA (IU-Verdes Fortuna) WANTS TO ERRADICATE ASBESTOS FROM ALL PUBLIC BUILDINGS IN FORTUNA.
On the past 14th of January, the local municipal group United Left-Green´s Fortuna submitted there proposal for the next municipal plenary session (Thursday 26th of January) to erradicate Asbestos from all public buildings in Fortuna. There proposal says:
"Asbestos is a mineral composed of silica fibers and some atoms of metals Such as Magnesium, Manganese, or Iron.
For many it will be easier to identify asbestos if we talk about uralite and asbestos cement,Two brands that were marketed in Spain in the mid-1980s.
It has been definitely demonstrated that the fibers of this material were highly carcinogenic, they can lead to different types of lung and pleural cancers, as well as a type of fibrosis Pulmonary disease known as asbestosis. Since then, its ban has been gradual in Spain, and its use was definitively vetoed in any form or product in 2002.
on there behalf, the European Union has set itself the objective of eradicating it from all Buildings with a deadline of 2028.
The diseases it generates have a long (Time elapsed between the installation of the onset of the disease) that can exceed 30 years. Thus, for example, in Germany, as in many countries, use / disease, resulting in that despite having interrupted the use of asbestos in the 1990s, the greatest number of diseases is expected within 20 years of the exhibition. We are currently in a peak disease detection such as Asbestosis, Pleural Mesothelioma and any histological type of lung cancer.
It is worth noting the presence of Asbestos at the Vicente Aleixandre Primary school. The roof s composed of Uralite and a letter has already been submitted in March to the Education Council by our Councilor for Education, asking for them to take inmediate Measures.
In order to take the appropriate measures, and without creating any kind of social alarm, we believe that we are faced with a serious Public Health problem that we must prevent, which is the best way of fighting for the health of our neighbors.
Because of the above, the United Left-Greens Municipal Group present in the town hall of Fortuna presents for its debate and approval before the next plenary session the following:
AGREEMENTS
First: Make an inventory of all asbestos that can be found in public constructions Or stored in the municipality of Fortuna and can supose a risk to the public health.
Second: To proceed with the withdrawal, with all the levels of security necessary to preserve the health of the population and workers, of any element containing asbestos, according to the previous inventory.
Third: develope the necessary information campaigns to make our neighbors aware of the convenience of not using these materials and/or replacing those already installed by others more in line with Public Health."
