1. Granada was under Islamic rule for more than 700 years (from 711 to 1492), significantly longer than any other place in the Iberian Peninsula and Europe.

2. In 1330 Granada was the most populated city of Europe. It had two large mosques, one situated in the Alhambra and another within the city.

3. Temperatures in Granada could be very low in the winter, dropping to just above freezing at night, and very hot in the summer, reaching 40 degrees Celsius on most days. Occasionally, snowfall occurs in the city.

4. Granada's average elevation is 738 meters above sea level. The Mediterranean Sea is just a 45 mins drive from Granada and Sierra Nevada ski resort is 35 km away.

NO TE PIERDAS UNA DE LAS TRADICCIONES DEL CORPUS DE GRANADA: LA TARASCA Y SUS CABEZUDOS!

La Tarasca simboliza algo tan universal como el triunfo del bien sobre el mal y su nombre proviene de la región francesa de Tarascón, lugar donde se dio origen a esta tradición en el siglo XIV y desde donde se extendió a otras localidades francesas y españolas.

Según cuenta la leyenda, La Tarasca era una horrible criatura con aspecto de dragón, con seis pequeñas patas parecidas a las de un oso, torso de buey, caparazón de tortuga y cola de escorpión. El rey de Tarascón intentó destruirla atacándola en varias ocasiones ya que aterrorizaba a la población y destrozaba los cultivos, pero nunca tuvo éxito. Fue Santa Marta la que consiguió encantar a la bestia con sus plegarias y apareció en la ciudad con la Tarasca domada y subida a su lomo. Los habitantes, empujados por el miedo atacaron a la criatura y le dieron muerte ya que no ofreció resistencia. Por ese motivo, Santa Marta pronunció un sermón que consiguió convertir al cristianismo a muchos de los que lo escucharon.
