The lovely owner of this warehouse conversion in Limehouse, London, has a huge collection of over 2,000 treasured titles. When she approached Warehouse Home interior design studio to transform her living room, a key part of her brief was to showcase her favourite tomes. The metal system was the perfect solution and complemented an old spiral staircase used to access the mezzanine home office.
Our client already had several pieces of unusual furniture and lighting. Some inherited from family. Others collected while travelling and living abroad. Including an armchair upholstered in zebra hide and a pair of life-size carved wooden elephant ‘tusks’. Our research into the local area revealed London’s historic dockyards once received exotic cargo from Africa and the Far East, including tigers and elephants. And our client had already revealed her love of colour and pattern. So, our theme for our client’s listed warehouse conversion became vintage / industrial / maximalist / exoticism. Once that was decided, was the natural destination for cushions and lighting. We also selected exotic Caspar velvet to upholster a sofa.
