🇪🇸 El clarinetista y constructor de gaitas irlandesas Andy Faden escribió lo siguiente en referencia a unas boquillas que le he mandado, después de trabajarlas teniendo en cuenta lo que quería...
Recibí las boquillas de clarinete hace un par de semanas y, ahora que he tenido la oportunidad de tocarlas y acostumbrarme a ellas, me gustaría darte mi opinión positiva al respecto.
- Contacté con Iván para ver si seguía restaurando y retocando boquillas, en particular las Vandoren B40 13 Series. Le compré una en 2019 y me ha ido excelente, pero me preocupaba tener solo una boquilla y buscaba otra de repuesto.
- Al final le he comprado dos boquillas más a Iván: una Vandoren B40 13 y una Zinner que tenía en stock. La forma en que Iván ha trabajado conmigo ha sido una auténtica revelación. Usando WhatsApp como medio de comunicación, en lugar de simplemente retocar una boquilla y enviarla, Ivan empezó a preguntarme sobre mí: sobre mi nivel como músico, qué configuraciones utilizaba, qué tipo de música tocaba, qué sonido me gustaba, qué buscaba, etc. Así que se tomó mucho tiempo para preguntarme quién era y qué buscaba. Luego empezó el proceso de selección de un par de boquillas. Usó grabaciones de voz y videos para contarme lo que tenía, lo que podía ofrecerme, cómo podía trabajar las boquillas, cómo iban y cómo podrían mejorar durante el proceso de retocarlas. Entonces pude dar yo mi opinión sobre lo que escuchaba, y pude hacer peticiones. Ivan trabajaba constantemente para que las boquillas quedaran en su "mejor estado", como él mismo decía. Me impresionó su meticulosidad para que quedaran perfectas, y siguió trabajando hasta que estuvo satisfecho con que las piezas estuvieran en ese "mejor estado posible". Originalmente planeaba comprar solo una boquilla, pero terminé comprando las dos, ya que ambas sonaban muy bien, parecidas pero también diferentes debido a los distintos materiales. Pero lo que también fue impresionante fue que Ivan se esforzó al máximo para que se sintieran igual y se tocaran lo más parecido posible, con la misma caña.
Cuando las recibí, me quedé impresionado con su calidad. Muy cómodas, precisas y con buena respuesta, y muy flexibles en cuanto a dinámica y calidad de sonido. Hay algo especial en cómo van, es como si tuvieran alma, y puedo sentir la pasión de Ivan por su arte, su instrumento y la creación musical cuando toco sus boquillas.

🇺🇲 Clarinetist and Irish bagpipe maker Andy Faden had the following to say in regards to a couple mouthpieces I sent to him after working on them having his likes in mind...
I received the Clarinet mouthpieces a couple of weeks ago, and now that I’ve had a chance to play them, and get used to them, I would like to give you some very positive feedback.
- I got in touch with Ivan to see if he was still refurbishing and refacing mouthpieces, particularly Vandoren B40 13 Series. I bought one from him back in 2019, which has been absolutely superb, but I was worried that I just had the one mouthpiece, and was looking to get another as a backup.
- I ended up buying two mouthpieces from Ivan, a Vandoren B40 13, but also a Zinner blank mouthpiece he had in stock. The way Ivan worked with me was a complete revelation. Using WhatsApp as the means of communication, rather than just refurbishing a mouthpiece and sending it off, Ivan started by asking questions about me, what level of player I am, what settings do I play in, what music do I play, what sound do I like, what am I looking for etc, so he took a lot of time up front to ask about me, who I was, and what I was looking for. Then the process started of selecting a couple of mouthpieces, he used voice recordings and videos to tell me about what he had, what he could offer, how he could work on the pieces, how they played for him, and how they might be improved in the refacing process. I could then give my feedback on what I heard, and make requests. All the time Ivan would be working to get the mouthpieces to their ‘best place’ as he put it. I was impressed how meticulous he was in getting them right, and kept working until he was satisfied that the pieces were the best they could be.
- I originally planned to buy just one piece, but end up buying both, as they both sounded so good, similar but also different due to the different materials. But what was also impressive is that Ivan put in extra work so they felt the same, and played as much as possible the same way, with the same reed.
- When I received them I was just blown away by how good they were. Very comfortable, accurate and responsive, and very flexible in terms of dynamics and tone quality. There’s something special about the way they play, it’s like they have real soul, and I can feel Ivan’s passion for his craft and his instrument and music making when I play his mouthpieces.
- Thanks again for your expertise and craftsmanship, and time you put into making the mouthpieces very special.
