So after an interesting discussion over the weekend with someone who doubted the effectiveness of one of the types of security systems we install, I thought I'd post this to clear up any doubts.
Our PRIMARY goal is to detect intruders outside your property BEFORE they do any damage to to locks, windows, grills etc to gain entry, thus saving you the cost of repairs and replacing stolen items.
This type of system isn't possible in every case though, whether its because of the garden layout or customers budget amongst other things, so the next best thing is internal detection.
CCTV to monitor the outside is great as an add-on, but relying on cameras alone to prevent intruders from breaking in is not an effective method of prevention for the following reasons:
Experience proves that intruders in most cases will simply pull a baseball cap over their faces or wear face coverings and carry on. Unless you have cameras with loud built-in sirens then there is no audible deterrent.
Cameras are perfect however for surveillance and keeping an eye on things.
Imagine you are in bed, or worse you're in the UK, its 3am, your mobile is on silent, and 2 intruders are attempting to break into your house.
Your mobile gets a notification of intruders, but you're asleep and there's no siren warning them off.
You wake up to 29 notifications and nice footage of them breaking in. It hasn't stopped them - money wasted.
Solution - If however you have a perimeter or internal alarm linked to a loud siren, then even if you're asleep and aren't aware, at least there's a viable audible deterrent that will prevent them going further - I have proof sent to me from clients that this works too.
The sirens won't just ring and ring either, they have a programmable timer which we set, and once that set time has elapsed the system will re-arm itself ready for any further intrusion.
In short, cameras are great if you combine them with a decent alarm system, but not really effective in the middle of the night when you're asleep and can't hear the phone notifications.
Every situation is different, and every customer has different requirements too, which is why we offer a full site survey and assessment free of charge so we can discuss the best way to protect your property.
I won't just direct you down a certain path and product like other companies do -
I will always advise on what would be best for your individual requirements, with some different options, and then it's up to you then to decide how you want to proceed.
One of the concerns raised was that some potential clients dont want an alarm going off all the time.
That's not a problem with our installations, as they are fitted in such a way to prevent false alarms from animals. You have complete control over the system on your mobile at all times as well.
A bit of background for you, I have worked in the security industry since 1986, in residential, commercial and the high security bank and financial institutions too, and have been installing here since 2004. The types of intruders and their methods are different here in Spain to the UK though, and over the years I've built up a pretty good picture of what does and doesn't work.
I hope this has given you all some useful tips and information, but if you have any questions please feel free to call or WhatsApp me on 634 306 357 and I'll answer them.
