Spain has introduced a new support number for people affected by road accidents: 018.

This is not an emergency number for calling help to the scene of a crash. Its purpose is different: to support people after the accident, when the most difficult stage often begins — paperwork, insurance issues, recovery, stress and the question of what to do next.

Behind every road accident there are not only statistics. There are people who have lost loved ones, suffered injuries or are facing a long and difficult recovery.

That is why Spain has launched the free public 018 helpline, created by the DGT.

The service is available for:

— people injured in road accidents;
— relatives and loved ones;
— families of those who have died in traffic accidents.

The 018 line operates across Spain and provides confidential support. It can be contacted by phone, WhatsApp, email or through a form on the DGT website.

Specialists help with rights, compensation procedures, social and medical resources, as well as psychological support.

An important detail: assistance is available in more than 50 languages, including the official languages of Spain’s autonomous communities. This is especially valuable for foreigners involved in a road accident in Spain who may not know where to turn.

The 018 number shows that road safety does not end at the moment of the accident. Support is also needed afterwards, when a person is trying to return to normal life.

Save this post. This information may become important when you least expect it.

Zaragoza is preparing to send Madrid a bill 🇪🇸

Spain’s extraordinary migrant regularisation process has become more than just an immigration issue. It is now also a municipal one.

Zaragoza City Council says the additional costs linked to the procedure could reach around €500,000 💶

Why?

Because much of the practical work happens locally: social services, advisory support, vulnerability reports, document processing and assistance for people applying through the regularisation process.

The decision was made at national level, but cities say they are the ones dealing with a large part of the day-to-day workload.

That is why Zaragoza plans to demand compensation from the Spanish government.

The process applies across Spain, but the pressure is especially visible in larger cities, where social services, housing support and municipal resources are already under strain.

For migrants who meet the requirements, the procedure may open the door to a temporary residence and work permit. For municipalities, however, it also means extra staffing, more requests and higher administrative costs.

The case of Zaragoza reflects a wider question in Spain: when the central government launches a nationwide measure, who should pay for its practical impact on local services?

🌸 Flower Carpets and the Festival of Decorated Streets in Arbúcies 2026: the Town Turns into a Living Garden Once Again

At the end of May, Arbúcies will once again become one of the most beautiful places in Catalonia for those who love traditions, flowers and deeply rooted popular festivals. On 31 May 2026, the town will host the Arbúcies Display of Natural Flower Carpets (Mostra de Catifes de Flors Naturals d’Arbúcies 2026), which will serve as a prelude to the Festival of Decorated Streets in Arbúcies (Enramades d’Arbúcies), scheduled from 4 to 8 June.

This celebration should not be seen merely as a beautiful walk through a decorated town. For Arbúcies, flower carpets are part of local identity, collective memory and a living culture of neighbourhood participation. Residents, associations, schools, clubs and groups of carpet makers work with flowers, leaves, seeds, sawdust and other natural materials, transforming the streets into ephemeral works of art.

In 2026, the event carries special meaning: Arbúcies is marking 80 years since the first documented design for a flower carpet. The earliest known records date back to 1947, when floral compositions gradually moved away from the simple tradition of scattering flowers along the streets and began to take the form of more carefully designed patterns. For this reason, the theme of this year’s Display of Natural Flower Carpets (Mostra de Catifes) is not only about beauty, but also about the memory of how a popular custom became a true form of street art.

An important change in 2026 is the shift from a competition format to a display format. The focus is now placed not on rivalry, but on participation, creativity and the shared atmosphere of the festival. This fits perfectly with the spirit of Arbúcies: here, people value not only the final image, but the entire process of preparation — collecting flowers, sorting materials, working together with neighbours and passing skills from one generation to the next.

The Display of Natural Flower Carpets will open the broader festive cycle — the Festival of Decorated Streets in Arbúcies (Enramades d’Arbúcies). The word enramada itself is linked to the tradition of decorating streets with branches and greenery. In the past, branches of alder, ash, hazel and other natural elements were placed in front of houses, while the streets were adorned with garland-like decorations. Over time, some of the materials changed, with paper and other decorative elements appearing, but the meaning remained the same: the town is decorated not from the outside, but from within — by the hands of its own residents.

The Festival of Decorated Streets in Arbúcies (Enramades d’Arbúcies) is officially recognised as a Traditional Festival of National Interest (Festa Tradicional d’Interès Nacional). It is not simply a local fiesta, but one of those Catalan traditions in which the religious calendar of Corpus Christi blends with popular culture, music, processions, sardanes, giants, street decorations and evening gatherings.

On 31 May, the centre of Arbúcies will feature 26 carpets made from natural flowers and 24 RaconsCATIFES artistic spaces — small decorative “corners” that complement the main route. Floral compositions will appear on the streets of Camprodon, L’Havana, Major, Pont, Sant Jaume, Segimon Folgueroles, Sorrall and Vern, as well as in other parts of the historic centre.

For local residents, this is one of the most eagerly awaited moments of the year, while for visitors it is a rare opportunity to experience Catalonia not as a postcard, but as a living tradition. It is here that one can especially feel how a small town becomes a stage: first, the outlines of future carpets appear on the streets and the meticulous work on the compositions begins; then the centre fills with flowers, music, strolling visitors, giants and festive movement.

Arbúcies is set in an exceptionally beautiful natural environment, between the Montseny Natural Park (Parc Natural del Montseny) and the Guilleries area. This context matters: the Festival of Decorated Streets and the flower carpets do not look like artificial decoration here, but rather like an extension of the surrounding landscape. Flowers, branches, greenery, scents and natural materials seem to bring the nature of Montseny directly into the town centre.

📅 Programme of the Arbúcies Display of Natural Flower Carpets 2026

📍 Saturday, 30 May

From 18:00
Work begins on the flower carpets and the RaconsCATIFES artistic spaces: the first outlines of the future compositions appear on the streets, participants prepare the base and begin arranging natural materials.

📍 Sunday, 31 May

Morning — until 14:00
Creation of carpets made from natural flowers on the streets of Camprodon, L’Havana, Major, Pont, Sant Jaume, Segimon Folgueroles, Sorrall and Vern. During this time, visitors can see the process of the compositions coming to life: from marking out the designs to filling the carpets with petals, leaves, seeds, sawdust and other natural materials.

Throughout the day
The RaconsCATIFES artistic spaces will complement the main route of the flower carpets. These are small decorative corners and creative installations that turn a walk through Arbúcies into a richer and more varied route: not only along the main streets with large carpets, but also through individual spaces where flowers, greenery and local imagination create intimate festive scenes.

Throughout the day
A craft fair will take place in Can Reus Square (placeta de Can Reus). It is a good opportunity to pause during the walk, discover the work of local artisans, enjoy the atmosphere of a small Catalan festival and see how the tradition of flower carpets connects with the market, conversation and the unhurried rhythm of town life.

Throughout the day
A fairground area will be set up on Avinguda dels Països Catalans. This part of the programme will add a more family-friendly and lively mood to the festival: after walking through the decorated streets, visitors can spend time with children and continue the day in a lighter fairground atmosphere.

From 10:00 to 12:00
A special live broadcast by Arbúcies Radio (Ràdio Arbúcies), dedicated to the Festival of Decorated Streets in Arbúcies 2026, will take place on Carrer Camprodon.

18:00
Gathering of the giants (plantada de gegants) in Plaça 1 d’Octubre, with the participation of the Arbúcies Giants Group (Colla de Geganters d’Arbúcies) and the giants of Breda.

From 18:30
Festive procession through the streets where the flower carpets have been created. Participants will include the giants, gralla players (grallers) and flabiol players (flabiolaires) of Arbúcies, the Breda Giants Group, the street performances Kosmik and Pilots, as well as musicians and percussion from Caixa De Trons Girona.

Additional Events

📍 From 23 May to 28 June
The exhibition “We Used to Sing, We Sing… and We Will Sing!” (Cantàvem, cantem… i cantarem!) will be held at the Montseny Ethnological Museum La Gabella (Museu Etnològic del Montseny, La Gabella). This is an audiovisual project by Càntut dedicated to songs from the oral tradition and their connection with territory and cultural memory.

📍 31 May, on the day of the flower carpets
Open day at the Montseny Ethnological Museum La Gabella. Opening hours: from 10:30 to 14:00 and from 16:30 to 19:00.

Barcelona Hotel Terrace Week 2026: 58 hotels and more than 120 free activities 🌇

Barcelona rises once again above the noise of its streets to welcome the beginning of summer with sunset drinks, live music, gastronomy and sweeping views over the city. From May 29 to June 7, the 15th Barcelona Hotel Terrace Week (Setmana de les Terrasses dels Hotels de Barcelona) takes place — one of the city’s most atmospheric events, when hotel terraces and rooftop spaces become open venues for residents and visitors alike.

The initiative is organized by the Barcelona Hotel Guild (Gremi d’Hotels de Barcelona) in collaboration with Barcelona City Council (Ajuntament de Barcelona) and with the support of the winery El Perro Verde. This year, 58 hotels across different districts of the city are taking part, with a programme featuring more than 120 free activities: concerts, tastings, workshops, yoga sessions, creative classes, family activities and gastronomic experiences.

The meaning of Hotel Terrace Week goes beyond beautiful views. The event was created as a way to bring hotels closer to city life and to show that their terraces can be more than closed spaces “only for tourists”: they can become lively meeting places for Barcelonans themselves. Over ten days, rooftops and inner courtyards turn into small urban stages: in one place Catalan rumba is playing, in another there is a tasting of Catalan cheeses, somewhere else guests learn to prepare cocktails or begin the morning with yoga above the rooftops of Barcelona.

What makes the event special is its sense of ease. There is no single route and no strict script: everyone can choose their own Barcelona. You can start the day with Pilates in Poblenou, join a gastronomic workshop in the afternoon, listen to bossa nova or Catalan rumba in the evening, and come with children at the weekend for a creative workshop or family entertainment. The programme is designed for different audiences — from lovers of gastronomy and music to those looking for wellness experiences or unusual ways to discover the city.

For tourists, this is a chance to see Barcelona from another angle — not only through the Gothic Quarter, beaches and museums, but also through its hotel culture, terraces, evening light and panoramic views. For residents, it is a good reason to discover places they often walk past but rarely enter.

All activities are free, although some require advance registration, and events without booking may have limited capacity. The organizers also warn that the programme may change, so it is advisable to check the latest information on the official MésQHotels website before attending.

🔥 The 6th 98 Octans Party Bumpers in Calafell: a festival of American cars, motorcycles and rock’n’roll on 29–31 May 2026

At the end of May, Calafell will once again turn into a stage for roaring engines, chrome bodywork and live-music energy: from 29 to 31 May, the town will host the 6th edition of 98 Octans Party Bumpers. It is one of those local events on the Costa Daurada where car culture, live music and a street-festival atmosphere come together in one long weekend that feels at once spectacular, relaxed and unmistakably summery.

The festival takes place in Calafell, in the province of Tarragona. The main daytime programme is scheduled at Carretera de l’Estació, 18, opposite the Red Cross building, while the evening and late-night music sessions will be held at Disco Vips. On the town’s tourism website, the event is presented as part of the local tourism calendar, and previous official promotional material has described 98 Octans Party as a meeting point for lovers of engines, rock music and Americana-inspired atmosphere, with cars, motorcycles, food trucks, stalls and live performances.

In essence, this is more than just a car show. 98 Octans Party is built around the unmistakable aesthetic of American custom cars, rockabilly culture and the feel of an open-air festival. For local residents, it is a chance to spend an energetic weekend in a seaside town; for tourists, it offers the opportunity to discover another side of the Catalan coast — not only beaches and promenades, but also a lively local events scene where music, machinery and food bring together a remarkably varied crowd. The format is especially appealing because the daytime programme is designed for a broad audience, while the evening sessions are aimed at those who want to carry on into the night in a more club-like atmosphere.

The 2026 programme includes performances by The Nite Howlers, Charlie Gin & The Tonics, The Kabooms, The Bank Robbers and Prisoners of Society, as well as DJ sets by Mr. Fez and Boopin Brush. The official tourism page for the event confirms that the centre of the daytime programme on Saturday and Sunday will be the car show, while the musical performances will be spread across both daytime and night-time slots. It is also specifically noted that admission to the daytime exhibition area is free, making the event an easy option both for a family outing and for a spontaneous visit while staying on the coast.

That said, ticket information for the night-time programme deserves a closer look. The Visit Calafell page lists a weekend ticket for Disco Vips at 20 euros with one drink included, while the ticketing platform Fourvenues publishes a price of 18 euros and specifies that access covers two nights, with a drink included for only one of the two sessions. It is worth keeping this discrepancy in mind and checking the latest conditions with the organisers or on the ticketing platform before purchasing.

For Calafell itself, events like this also matter as part of the town’s broader identity, since it has been actively promoting not only beach tourism but also event-based tourism. 98 Octans Party fits neatly into that strategy: the festival offers a visually striking daytime programme in an open-air setting, a solid concert line-up in the evening and a retro Americana atmosphere that clearly sets it apart from more conventional seaside events. For that reason, anyone planning to be on the Tarragona coast during the last weekend of May may want to keep Calafell firmly on their list of the most interesting places to visit.

Below is the full programme currently published on the official tourism page for the event. The organisers present it by day and by programme block, without a detailed hour-by-hour timetable.

Summer in Blanes begins not only with beaches, sea air and walks around Sa Palomera, but also with small local celebrations that gradually spread across different parts of the town. The Neighbourhood Festivals of Blanes 2026 (Festes de Barri de Blanes 2026) are a large series of local summer events held from late May to October, turning the town into a lively map of neighbourhood gatherings, music, communal dinners, children’s activities and open-air evening celebrations.

For Blanes, these festivals are much more than a programme of entertainment. They are part of the town’s everyday culture, where each neighbourhood becomes, for a few days, its own centre of local life. The events are organised by neighbourhood associations (associacions de veïns i veïnes), while the town council supports the calendar and coordination. In 2026, the municipal calendar includes celebrations in Els Pins, Mas Enlaire, Racó d’en Portes, S’Auguer, El Port, Mas Florit, Quatre Vents, Valldolig, Raval, Sa Carbonera, Montferrant, Mas Cremat, Can Borell, Mas Marull, Ctra. de Lloret-La Pedrera, La Plantera and Ca la Guidó.

What makes these festivals special is their scale and atmosphere. Unlike the town’s main festival, they do not feel like a large official event designed primarily for visitors. These are the celebrations of each neighbourhood: with squares, streets, familiar bars, neighbours, family gatherings and programmes shaped by the character of each area. In some places, the focus is on music and dancing; in others, on communal meals, children’s activities or evening get-togethers among residents.

For tourists, the Festes de Barri offer a wonderful opportunity to see Blanes beyond postcards and the usual holiday image. The town, often perceived as the southern gateway to the Costa Brava, reveals itself through these events as a living local community. Sa Palomera is considered the symbolic starting point of the Costa Brava, while official tourist resources describe Blanes as a town of beaches, cultural life and family leisure. Against this resort-like reputation, the neighbourhood festivals show a warmer and more intimate side of the town.

The 2026 calendar stretches across almost the entire warm season. The first celebrations begin on 30 and 31 May in the Els Pins neighbourhood, followed by Mas Enlaire, while in June several neighbourhoods hold their festivities almost at the same time. In July, the programme continues in Quatre Vents, Valldolig and Raval; in August, in Sa Carbonera, Montferrant, Mas Cremat, Can Borell and Mas Marull; and the autumn finale takes place in La Plantera and Ca la Guidó.

The individual programmes for each neighbourhood are usually published closer to the event dates and may vary in format. Municipal materials emphasise that the festivals are organised by neighbourhood associations, while applications, posters and details must go through town coordination. For events expected to attract a larger number of participants, additional requirements apply regarding document submission deadlines, and in previous years the standard finishing time for festivities was limited to 3 a.m.

For residents of Blanes, these celebrations are a chance to support their neighbourhood and meet neighbours outside the usual daily routine. For visitors, they are a rare opportunity to experience not only a seaside holiday, but also the true local rhythm of a Catalan coastal town. Such events do not need grand decorations: their value lies precisely in their simplicity, closeness and the feeling that the celebration belongs not to the stage, but to the streets, squares and people.
