For a short window every spring, Madrid’s rose gardens are at their absolute best. The two you shouldn’t miss are:

📍La Rosaleda del Parque del Oeste
📍La Rosaleda de El Retiro

La Rosaleda del Parque del Oeste is massive—with over 20,000 rose bushes and 650+ varieties spanning more than 32,000 square meters. It has this open, almost theatrical feel, with neatly designed paths, a central lily pond, and fountains framed by roses that seem to stretch in every direction. 🌸

Then there's La Rosaleda de El Retiro—smaller, more elegant, and with a quiet secret-garden feel. Designed in 1915, it features over 4,000 roses arranged in structured floral beds. 🌿

Both are completely free. Both are stunning. And together they’re one of the most beautiful spring experiences you can have in Madrid. ❤️🤍

This might be one of the easiest day trips from Madrid 🧳🇪🇸

After visiting Burgos, I wanted to explore more of Castilla y León, and Valladolid ended up being the perfect next stop. It’s only about 1.5 hours from Burgos by car and also really easy to reach from Madrid (~1 hour by train). 🛤

Compared to some of Spain’s more popular destinations, Valladolid feels much more relaxed and local. It’s super walkable, full of beautiful plazas and historic architecture, and the tapas are honestly so good here!

Another Spanish city that deserves way more attention 👀

Just 1 hour by train from Madrid, Valladolid is the kind of place you can show up to with no real plan and still end up having an amazing time!

Great food, beautiful streets, and just enough to see without feeling overwhelmed.

Here’s where I’d start ⬇️

⛲️ Plaza de Zorrilla – One of the most recognizable spots in the city, with the fountain, Valladolid sign, and surrounding buildings

🌿 Parque Campo Grande – A beautiful park right next to Plaza de Zorrilla, where you’ll find tree-lined paths, a pond, fountains, and peacocks roaming freely

⛪️ Iglesia de San Pablo – The details on the façade are simply incredible
