Sophia Loren once called this five-bedroom villa on Rome’s ancient Appian Way home.
Purchased and renovated by film producer Carlo Ponti in the 1950s, the property became a private retreat the couple shared during Cinecittà’s glamorous “Hollywood on the Tiber” era.
Guests reportedly included Federico Fellini, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis.
Set across 2.7 private acres above an ancient basalt quarry, the 19th-century villa features Roman mosaics, archaeological fragments and beautifully converted former stables—less than four miles from the Colosseum.
It predates Villa Sara, Loren’s famous 50-room residence outside Rome, which Ponti reportedly bought around 1960 after promising her “the most beautiful house in the world.”
