Nobody really prepares you for this part of moving abroad with kids. 🇪🇸
You can research schools, organise paperwork, find a home and plan the practical side of the move.
But you can’t plan exactly how your children will react to leaving everything familiar behind.
And we’ve learnt that adjustment can look completely different for every child.
Some settle quickly. Others need months. There can be excitement one day and tears the next. New friendships can take time. A new language can be exhausting. And as a parent, it can be incredibly difficult not to start questioning everything when your child is struggling.
The biggest thing we’ve learnt…
Give it time. More time than you think. ❤️
We’ve spoken to hundreds of families who have moved abroad over the years, and so many have experienced difficult periods while their children adjusted.
That doesn’t mean the move was a mistake.
For us, the most important thing has been being there, listening, creating security at home and trusting that adapting to an entirely new life doesn’t happen overnight.
And then slowly you start noticing the little things.
New friends. New words. Invitations. Inside jokes. Places that feel familiar.
Until one day you realise that the place that once felt completely foreign has started becoming home to them too. 🩵
