Our podcast has been quiet because the bookshop took over, so there's been less time to record conversations with booksellers. We did it! We opened a bookshop in Mojácar, Spain. For now our social media presence is quite lame (we're only on FB, follow us Sunny with a Chance of Books), but you can see more of our bookshop adventures there! Yey!

NEW Episode! is a new bookshop with a great story. It's in Lisbon, where its founder moved a few years back and realised she was not the only one missing fresh exciting new books in English. So she started what has already become a literary home for readers and writers in Portugal's buzzing capital. I'd like to bring back this episode recorded back in 2021; has unanswered comments over the last weeks, making its friends worry about him and the bookshop. The situation in Gaza is absolutely heartbreaking and, while this podcast is a tiny voice looking to take no political stance, I couldn't help but think about the conversation we had with Samir two years ago, when his bookshop was destroyed. And how he, with the help of so many who came to support him, rebuilt that bookshop into an even larger, more beautiful one. I thought about how many children, parents, authors, readers found their refuge in this new bookshop and how it is now again facing so much uncertainty. I don't know whether the bookshop is still there or whether Samir is safe, but together with all those who listened to this episode and heard his passion and resilience, I'll be thinking of him. 🙏

Have you ever dreamed of becoming a bookseller? Opening a bookshop? Come join the Future Booksellers Club!
Since starting Got Books, I've been getting messages from listeners around the world who share that dream. The idea of one day opening my own bookshop is the reason I started the podcast and that idea is still alive somewhere in my head.. although it's not attached to any definite timeline. The Future Booksellers Club, I hope, will be a space for all of us who like to fantasize about one day calling themselves booksellers. Our first meetup is on Jan 13, come along! We'll just say hi, share a drink (it's all happening on Zoom, so bring your own!) and see where we're at in our bookshop dreaming journeys. Bring a friend, bring a pet, a book, a bookshop name.. and we'll see you on Jan 13 (register at link in bio).
