Feria de las Maravillas Returns to Maro

Just a few minutes from Nerja, the beautiful village of Maro is getting ready for five days of music, tradition and celebrations.

From 4 to 8 September 2026, the Feria de las Maravillas takes over the village in honour of Maro’s patron saint, the Virgen de las Maravillas.

Expect live music, dancing, traditional food, children’s activities, horses, parades and plenty of local feria atmosphere.

A Taste of the Axarquía: Ajoblanco Festival 2026

Looking for something a little different this weekend? Head into the hills to the beautiful white village of Almáchar for one of the Axarquía’s best known food festivals.

The Fiesta del Ajoblanco takes place this Saturday, 5 September 2026, celebrating one of the region’s most traditional dishes. Ajoblanco is a refreshing Andalusian cold soup made with almonds, garlic, bread and olive oil, traditionally served with sweet Moscatel grapes.

Throughout the village you can expect food, traditional Verdiales music, street theatre, cooking workshops and flamenco, all set amongst Almáchar’s winding streets and whitewashed houses.

It also coincides with the Moscatel grape harvest, so you’ll see the traditional paseros around the village covered with grapes drying naturally in the September sunshine.

If you’re staying in Nerja and fancy discovering a more traditional side of the Axarquía, this could be a great Saturday day trip.
