It’s funny—we set out to write a love letter to the tropics and kept failing. Everything sounded like a cliché, the kind of copy you’d find in a brochure for a three-star resort on a tucked-away Indonesian island.

We tried to capture the jungle’s constant hum—the koel’s morning call, the cicadas’ endless chorus. We wanted to describe the way trees drink in sudden, relentless rain, how the air shifts afterwards, thick with renewal. And we thought about the quiet luxury of reaching for a perfectly chilled mango or peeling open a rambutan, sweet and ready to be savoured.

But every draft felt like a postcard, promising the allure of the “exotic tropics.”

Except to us, it’s not exotic—it’s home. It’s our everyday, and we love it.

So here’s our love letter to the jungles we come from. Happy Valentine’s Day.
