A week of Ironman training in beautiful Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

~ Mission is to currently get speedy ⚡️on the bike & continue to improve my swim technique and run.

Going really HARD in my hard sessions & I feel it’s finally paying off 📈, hopefully I can pull off something special next year ✨.

Taking easy sessions easy & prioritising recovery has been key too.

I AM AN IRONMAN ❤️

Wow, what a day 🥹
The hardest but equally the most rewarding thing I have ever done so far.
Happy with my performance yesterday, I gave it everything I had. (and kept smiling until the final lap of the Ironman marathon 🤣).

The past 9 months have been HARD, this is the most time and energy I have dedicated to a training block, and it was tough.
There were many highs and many lows, and the training was life consuming.
But crossing that finish line it really all felt worth it.

Could not have done this without the support, from my family, coach, friends & people on the internet sending me the loveliest messages.
So much love !!

I think my favourite part of the day was the swim, it was the only part of the race which felt easy, and the atmosphere was electric.
I remember turning my head to breathe 2.5km in to the 3.8k swim, and seeing the surrounding shore lined with people and the sun rising, and thinking “wow, I’m here and I’m actually doing this?!” It was euphoric.

First 90k of the bike was fun, and then from 150k - 180k my legs literally seized up, and there was a stabbing pain in my knee. It was pure graft to T2.
Fuelling on an Ironman bike leg is also no joke!! I knew I had to keep taking on fuel and hydration, but this was so revolting the final hour.
The thought of running a marathon afterwards seemed quite frankly unachievable.

Got to T2 and was in and out as quickly as possible.
I knew if I stopped it would be harder to get going again.
The 4 lap marathon was a slog!!
I have NEVER experienced pain in my legs like I did on that marathon.
From km 1 it was so so painful.
The aim was to keep running and stick to my heart rate zones.

The support was amazing & the whole race was the most efficient and well organised I have ever been to.
Even the aid stations were incredible!

Kept running and crossed that finish line, in a time I’m pleased with. Hard work pays off!

I doubt this is the last Ironman I do hehe, Copenhagen you have been a fun 🫶🏻

First 70.3 distance tri complete ✨

~ a debrief of Sunday below 👇🏼

Safe to say this did not go completely to plan at all, but many lessons learnt 🤝🏼.
This was also good practice before Copenhagen full, as if these things had gone wrong I don’t want to think what could have happened!

Swim:

This went very wrong.
Never swam that slowly, not entirely sure why but I felt like I couldn’t breathe as the water was freezing, so kept stopping and treading water to try and breathe.
I’ve not done any open water swimming so definitely need to practice this, just been in an empty lane. It was not good, I quite literally forgot how to swim.
Also a bit disconcerting being in dark water, but this is just something to get over.

Bike:
First 20 minutes felt good!
Beautiful scenery and was enjoying it.
Then I went into a hole in the road and my gears made a crack sound and stopped working, I was stuck in gear 1 with no resistance.
A guy stopped and tried to help but no clue what to do, I turned it upside down and span the wheels backwards but this did not help the situation 🤣.
At this point I considered just pulling out, pace could not be hit and I was frustrated to say the least, but wanted to finish!
The event was open roads and no aid stations, so was much completely alone.
My water bottles kept falling out, so had to keep stopping, getting off and running back to get them. This happened six times in total, once at the top of a hill.
Had to run back down the hill to collect it, I feel like at this point it was just funny, if you don’t laugh you will cry?!
However I did not fall of which I’ll take as a win!!

Run:
Had not run for a few weeks due to injury, but first 10k felt ok, was at the lower end of the pace I wanted to hit but felt fine.
There was 1 aid station on the run & had coke halfway which was another mistake, I had never done this in training.
It then came back up 2k later, so wouldn’t do that again.
I think I need to take my own advice, always practice with the fuel you have trained with!

Many things to work & improve on, some of it was enjoyable too ✨
Time to lock in for Copenhagen full in 3 months 🫶🏻
