From Chur in Switzerland to just north of Mannheim — and still rolling. Andrew has reached the halfway point of his cycling tour along the River Rhine to raise funds for the Easy horse care rescue center in Rojales, Spain. These are just some of the horses and ponies that would benefit from his GoFundMe fundraiser (link in comments)
LUCEIRO
The story of the Easy horse care rescue centre begins with Luceiro. The two-year-old stallion was found locked in a dark stable, his left eye badly injured and rotting, hurling himself against the bars as flies drove him crazy. His eye had to be surgically removed which at first caused a great trauma. He would gallop madly about and crash through the fences after being confined in tiny spaces all his life. But with lots of time and patience, Luceiro adapted to his new environment. He now wants to be part of everything.
DAISY
As another heat wave swept across the province, Daisy was found tied up to a tree and left without food or water and first taken to the police station, where she was cooled down and given water until the rescuers could go and get her. Her condition was heartbreaking. She was skin and bones and showed signs of laminitis. When examined, it also turned out she was almost blind. From her huge appetite to her stubborn attitude, she certainly has secured her place here at the rescue centre.
BRONSON
Bronson was found lying in a field beside a main road. He had been deliberately and terribly beaten. When approached, he desperately tried to escape. A head collar and broken lead rope suggested he had broken free and had managed to stagger to the road. After his rescue Bronson spent a week in intensive care. Until today his balance is permanently affected and his vision is impaired. He even falls over sometimes when he gets over-excited. Yet Bronson is one of the kindest and happiest horses you can meet.
LUNA
Luna was abandoned and suffered severe psychological issues. She was so aggressive, no one could even go near her without the risk of being badly bitten or kicked. Although she was only about seven years old, she was showing signs of leg and tendon issues. At first she was stabled and offered an occasional carrot and allowed space to reach out if she desired. But nothing could get through to her. Hoping the companionship of other horses might help she was turned out in a field with two other mares. She chose Mimosa to be her friend and they have been inseparable ever since.
