Gym Etiquette Matters More Than You Think 💪🏾
Most people don’t mind receiving help.
What they mind is how that help is delivered.
The gym can be intimidating enough as it is. Some people are stepping into a weight room for the very first time. Others have been training for years but may still have blind spots in their technique. The truth is, none of us know everything.
I’ve been training for decades, and I still learn new things from coaches, athletes, physiotherapists, and even everyday gym members.
The difference between being helpful and being annoying often comes down to your approach.
❌ “You’re doing that wrong.”
✅ “Hey mate, would you mind if I shared something that helped me?”
One creates defensiveness.
The other creates a conversation.
If someone asks for advice, be respectful.
If they don’t ask for advice, be even more respectful.
Remember, your goal shouldn’t be to prove you’re the smartest person in the gym. It should be to help someone improve while preserving their confidence and dignity.
A small piece of advice delivered with humility can prevent injuries, improve performance, and even build friendships.
The gym is one of the few places where complete beginners and highly experienced lifters share the same space.
Let’s make it a place where people feel supported rather than judged. 👊🏾
Have you ever received gym advice that genuinely helped you… or advice that completely rubbed you the wrong way? 🤔👇🏾
