Culture Kultür "Time" album review in Side-Line Reviews
Culture Kultür – Time (Digital/Vinyl Album – CAUSTIC RECORDS)
In my opinion, Culture Kultür is undoubtedly one of the most accomplished and successful Electro groups to emerge from Spain. It’s no surprise that they released several albums on Out Of Line before eventually continuing on their own label.
With “Time”, they aren’t presenting a brand-new album—their last full-length dates back to 2019—but instead they are celebrating their 30th anniversary with a collection of reworked and remixed tracks. In essence, they’ve taken a selection of their songs and given them a fresh treatment. The result is interesting: these ‘redux’ versions have stood the test of time in a remarkably pleasant way.
The band’s sound still moves fluidly between EBM and Future-Pop. There are clear sonic echoes of VNV Nation and Assemblage 23, yet Culture Kultür also infuse their music with a distinctive character that often veers into Dance-Pop territory. Their greatest strength has always been the build-up of their tracks, which rise gradually and then burst into powerful, euphoric choruses. Personally, it’s the earlier songs that continue to leave the deepest impression on me.
“Time” is a perfect opportunity to dive back into the band’s musical world—or, for those who have never encountered Culture Kultür before, an ideal introduction. The lingering question is whether this release is a prelude to a new chapter, or perhaps a symbolic closing statement. (Rating:7½).
