የአድዋ ጦርነት ከመጀመሩ በፊት ባራቲየሪ በእረፍት ሰበብ ከኤርትራ ወደ ኢጣሊያ ሄዶ ነበር። ካሜራ ከሚባል ከተማ ሉልዮ(ሐምሌ)፳፮ ቀን ፲፰፻፺፭ ሲገባ ከፍ ያለ አቀባበል ተደረገለት። የከተማው ሕዝብ በሙሉ ወጥቶ ተቀበለው። ገና ሳይዋጋ "ታላቁ ድል አድርጊው ጀግና" እያለ ሕዝቡ ጮኸለት። ባራቲየሪም ለሕዝቡ ንግግር ሲያደርግ "… በቅርብ ቀን ምኒልክን በቀፎ ውስጥ አስሬ ሮማ አመጣዋለሁ … " ብሎ መናገሩን ኤሊትስ እና ሮሲ ጽፈውታል። (ጳውሎስ ኞኞ አጤ ምኒልክ ከተሰኘው በገፅ ፩፻፷፫ ላይ የተወሰደ)
