AN OPEN LETTER TO H.E. PRESIDENT SALVA KIIR MAYARDIT, THE SPLM SECRETARY GENERAL, AND THE SENIOR PRESIDENTIAL ENVOY FOR SPECIAL PROGRAMS
Why Humiliate a Loyal and Qualified Son of Greater Maiwut County?
By the Youths of Maiwut County Headquarters
H.E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan,
Your Excellency,
We, the concerned youths of Maiwut County, respectfully write to seek clarification regarding the recent appointment and subsequent removal of Dr. John G*i Yoh as Caretaker Minister of Health.
On September 28, 2026, Dr. John G*i Yoh was appointed Caretaker Minister of Health. On October 1, 2026, he was removed from the position and replaced by Dak Duop Bichiok.
Dr. John G*i Yoh is a son of Greater Maiwut County and a person with a long record of public service, academic achievement, and community contribution. He has served as a former Minister of Education and as a Member of Parliament, and he is widely known for his academic and professional work.
What has particularly concerned many of us is the short period between his appointment and his relief from the office. We respectfully ask: What led to this decision, and why was such a highly qualified South Sudanese given so little time to serve?
Dr. John G*i Yoh spent many years outside the national cabinet without publicly turning against the government or abandoning his political principles. He continued with his academic work, writing, teaching, and supporting young people and students.
During his previous public service, his office was understood by many as being open to South Sudanese from different communities. His professional background and experience should be thereforeiewed as an asset to the country.
We are not writing this letter to challenge the authority of the president. Rather, we are appealing for fairness, transparency, and respect for qualified national cadres.
