Meet - Dr Claire Karekezi, Rwanda's first female Neurosurgeon. She obtained a Doctor of Medicine from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Rwanda.

She completed her neurosurgical training at Mohamed V University of Rabat (Morocco), World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies Training Center for Africa and graduated in 2016.

She further enrolled in several neurosurgical fellowships with a special interest in Neuro-Oncology and Skull Base Surgery at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Massachusetts, USA.

She later completed a Clinical Fellowship in Neuro-Oncology & Skull Base Surgery at the University of Toronto, Toronto Western Hospital in Canada before returning to Rwanda in August 2018 to become the country’s first female Neurosurgeon.

Dr Claire Karekezi is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at Rwanda Military Hospital and a Senior Lecturer of Surgery at the University of Rwanda, School of Medicine and Pharmacy.

She serves as the Chair of the African Women in Neurosurgery (AWIN), Chair of Rwanda Medical and Dental Council (RMDC) and is a member of multiple national and international neurosurgical societies.

የዛሬው ምሽት ደብረታቦር ላይ የሆነው ይህን ታሪክ አስታወሰኝ።
ወቅቱ ኢጣልያ ለሁለተኛ ግዜ በወረረችን ሰአት...
የእኛ እና የኢጣልያ ሰራዊት ፊትለፊት ምሽግ እንደያዘ ነው፡፡
በአንዱ ቀን እንዲህ ሆነ ፡፡ሀውዜን በርባ ዶርሆ አከባቢ ከሰፈረው የጎጃም ጦር መካከል አንድ ቀውላላ ወታደር ከጦር ሰፈሩ ርቆ እንዲሁ ሲንቀዋለል ድንገት ግንባር ቀደም የኢጣልያ ጦር ወታደሮች ይይዙታል፡፡ ደግነቱ መሳሪያ አልያዘም ልብሱም እንደማንኛውም የአከባቢ ገበሬ በመሆኑ የኢጣልያኑ አዛዥ ላቀረበለት ጥያቄ "ሰላማዊ የአከባቢው ነዋሪ ገበሬ መሆኑን" ሲያስረዳው የኢጣልያኑ አዛዥ የማያምንበት ምክንያት ስላልነበረው በነጻ እንዲለቁት በማዘዙ ይለቁታል፡፡
ሲወጣ በኢጣልያኖቹ ካምፕ ምሳ እየታደለ ስለ ነበር ለዚሁ ቀውላላም ምሳውን ሰጥተውት፣ ቡና ጠጥቶ፣ የተረፈውን ነጭ ፉርኖ ዳቦ በሸማው ቋጥሮ ይመለስና ለጓደኞቹ ሰለገጠመው ሁኔታ አጣፍጦ ይነግራቸዋል፡፡
በወቅቱ በኛዎቹ ካምፕ ቡና የሚጠጡት ራሶች እና ባለ ማእረግ ሹማምንቶች ስለነበሩ፣ በተጨማሪም የምግብ እጥረት ጭምር ነበረባቸው፡፡ የዚያ ቀውላሌ ጓደኞች ጣልያኖች ጓደኛቸውን እንደ ራስና ደጃዝማች በማስተናገዳቸው ገርሟቸው ምራቃቸውን ሲውጡ ከመሀላቸው አንዱ ተነስቶ "ጎበዝ እንሂድና ጣልያኖችን እንጎብኝ" ብሎ ሀሳብ ሲያቀርብ በሰፈሯ ያለው የጎጃም ገበሬ ወታደር ሁሉ በአንድ ድምጽ ስለተስማማ ጠመንጃቸውን በየጥሻው ጥለው ሳይጠሩ ቡና ሊጠጡ ወደ ኢጣልያኖች ሰፈር ሄዱ፡፡
ሀምሳ የሚሆኑት እነዚህ ባላገር ገበሬዎች ሰብሰብ ብለው ቡና ሊጠጡ ወደ ኢጣልያኖች ሰፈር መገስገሳቸውን ያየው የኢጣልያ ቀዳሚ ጦር ገና ከሩቁ በመትረየስ ጥይት ይቀበላቸዋል፡፡ቡና ሊጠጡ ቋምጠው የሄዱትን የገበሬ ጦር በቡና እና ቡና ቁርስ ምትክ በጥይት ተቀበሏቸው፡፡

የቆሰለ ቆስሎ እግሬ አውጭኝ በማለት ሸሽቶ ሰፈር ከደረሱት አንዱ
"እነዚህ የማይረቡ እኛ ሰው ናቸው ብለን ቡና ልንጠጣ ብንሄድ በጥይት ተቀበሉን " ብሎት አረፈ፡፡
