Whenever we talk about modern Ethiopian music, one man stands out prominently and head and shoulders above all others and for many is ‘the greatest of all time.’ This man is Artist Tilahun Gessesse, often referred to as the ‘Voice’ or the ‘Golden Throat’! He has set a new standard for what Ethiopian music should look like.

The new year always sneaks in quietly, no matter how much we prepare for it. One day it’s the last page of the calendar, the next day we’re suddenly in Meskerem, and people are talking about fresh starts and resolutions as if at the snap of a finger, they will suddenly change everything. I’ve made those resolutions before, lists scribbled with determination, promises to wake up earlier, to be more disciplined, to somehow become a completely different version of myself. And I’ve broken them too, sometimes before the ink was even dry.

The Meskel Demera Festival, celebrated today in Addis Ababa and across Ethiopia, concluded without incident, the Ethiopian Federal Police (EFP) announced.

The EFP noted that it successfully coordinated with various security and safety forces, deploying a technology-assisted police detail nationwide. This security success was attributed to close cooperation with the public, religious leaders, festival organizers, and local youth groups.
